Cap rollover for next year...

In answer to @AU-panther's question about Matt Kalil's upside, I pretty much agree with what @panthers55 wrote.  Our Oline coaches have a pretty good record of bringing up the play level of some fairly average players or those needing a career revival.

He's definitely not great, but this is a weak FA group and weak draft for OT, and I think we HAVE to assume there's a VERY high risk that Oher doesn't play next year.  His concussion symptoms (vision distortion I think I read somewhere) seem pretty severe, and I think we have to assume he could hang up the cleats.  Given that we had NO LT depth at the start of this season (David Foucault?!?!?!?!  Still can't believe G'man did that...!) having a veteran back up who has LT experience is really important.  The fact that it's Ryan Kalil's brother can only help him fit in well here... But my biggest concern with Matt Kalil would be his health given that he's coming off injury.

I'm the complete opposite.  Load up on O in FA, defense in the draft.

I believe offense is taking up majority of our cap space, best solution to lowering is drafting younger replacement.

I'm not saying we shouldn't do something, I just find it humorous that a lot of people continue to throw his name out there and the only reason is because of his name and former draft position.

I would be happy if we were to spend 10m a year for someone like Whitworth for a few years.  Or someone like Reiff who could possible play both tackle spots.

I agree his name recognition factor is a huge reason why so many of us throw his name around.

Why do the majority of huddlers want Dave to spend money on what's the worst FA class in recent history??

It's terrible and only going to get worse after teams tag/resign til may 9th.

This class of FA is really not all that bad. I think it has to do with the lack of OTs that makes it seem that way. We could use a DE, S, and a LT. We very well could get solid starters out of the DE, and S positions. But that OT one? May not happen. Things may change, as they often do. But as of right now. the LT FA pool is rather shallow.

There is talent out there in FA. And we have money to spend. This is going to be fun. I tell ya what.

Today on Sirius Jim Miller and Pat Kirwin were talking about this.  Pat asked who the top 3 teams were with most carryover money...pointing out those teams were not winners.  Said no one every wins doing bargain basement shopping. Got to go out and get some players.

That would fit the graphic in the OP. I just hope Gettleman figures it out this offseason. Because he has had 2 very successful seasons getting lucky with his strategy I am worried that yet again he's going to gamble on inactive free agency and a mediocre draft full of luxury picks.

I know Gettleman had to get this team out of cap hell.  Time now to switch gears. Need to build this team to be a consistent winner.

He should have listened to me and sign a few veteran corners and then draft the corners he wanted. We would have avoided this disaster and might be still playing this weekend.

This year he needs to sign a free agent TE and the best tackle he can get (like Kalil if available).  Bring in a free agent safety and then draft some quality players. He also said he wants to fill holes in free agency so he doesn't have to draft for need. Last year he screwed the pooch on most counts. Hopefully he goes back to his philosophy and doesn't screw up again.

Well he did listen to you when he signed Boykin.

Can you tell Dave who is going to get hurt in 2017.  That way he can go ahead and grab some really good backups at those positions.  That would have come in handy when Oher went down.  If he just knows exactly who is getting hurt next year it will make it so much easier in free agency.

1-5 before the injuries...no excuse.

Potential injuries should always be a factor, but even more of a factor should have been the fact that we pretty much got beat like a drum by Miller and company in the Super Bowl. It wasn't a mystery, we needed to gird the OFFENSIVE line, healthy or not.
