Cap rollover for next year...

First of all it is a spending floor not a cap floor which is a huge difference. If we give a signing bonus of 30 million to a player it all counts against the spending minimum but cap wise is prorated. So you can spend the money and still not spend the cap amount. Over the last 2 years we have spent one of the fewest amounts of cash in the league. Is it Gettleman or Richardson? Does it matter?

As for Kalil, what did folks say about Oher before he came here? Look at what we have done with nobodies like Norwell and Remmers. Kalil's was picked third in the draft. I suspect our staff along with his brother Ryan can do a lot with Kalil.

You are correct it is a cash spending flour, not a cap floor, but even in regards to the cap we have spent close to the max each year except for last year with the Normal fiasco.  One of the years we had to actually restructure people during the season to make sure we stayed under the cap.  The simple fact that we added voidable years to players such as Harper and Cotchery should give you a pretty good idea of how close on the cap we were.

As far as the cash spending goes we were actually 2nd in 2015 in cash spending and 2nd to last in 2016.

Not sure I would say we spent one of the fewest amounts of cash in the league.  Either way cash spending varies widely from year to year based mostly on when large signing bonuses go out.

This idea that DG is cheap is just a bit overplayed around here.  There is really no reason for a GM to be cheap.  If we start next season with $50m in cap space it would be fair to say someone is cheap but here again what reason does a GM have in doing that?

I read we were bottom three in the last 2 years but I don't know where it came from. Spending the cap money has little to do with Gettleman as he inherited the debt. The spending cash went up signing Cam and Kuechly which are 2 of our most expensive players so that would be an outlier.

Why should be save money and not spend it? I give uo. Then again he has done more than one unexplainable thing last year. If he lets Short walk then it will be one more.

As a frachise that prides itself on building  through the draft, and finding role players in FA, how do fans continue to get themselves hyped up about any free agency period?

Because we want to believe the team has learned its lesson. Not having back to back winning seasons EVER should be a red flag that what they are doing is not working.

I wish I could find the interview but there was one around draft time where he made a telling statement about how the Super Bowl run put him behind the 8 ball on his draft and FA evaluations. He said something to the fact that he was going to rely on his scouts more and try to cram the film. Well the cramming didn't work.

That's a good point man....I wonder if that really did throw him off his game...

It seems like a good problem to have and it does sound funny to say you have more time to evaluate when you suck and miss the playoffs lol....but here we are...

There's always something to look forward to I guess. There is also a chance we sign a crafty veteran on the cheap and that's kind of fun.

Why do the majority of huddlers want Dave to spend money on what's the worst FA class in recent history??

It's terrible and only going to get worse after teams tag/resign til may 9th.

A class is not the same as picking up a few guys we need. In 2007 when Olsen was drafted, they said the tight end draft pool was one of the worse ever. Did that mean that Olsen wasn't worth a first rounder?  Maybe the free agent class is not great but we don't need a class just a WR, tackle, safety and TE.

Totally agree with this.  G'man pretty much ignored FA to focus on the draft.  From this standpoint it's good to be totally out of the post-season this year.  G'man has time to evaluate on all levels, self scout, free agents, go to the Shrine game, senior bowl, whatever..., and our guys get more time to rest up / heal up.  It seems like a short season was needed all around to help everyone regroup.
