Bo Jackson says Cam's blows to the head "scare the hell out of me"

It starts with the officials though. They have allowed it on certain players, so it's cool. Until THEY start suffering consequences more than missing the playoffs, I don't see much changing. Even implementing rules like the ejection for targeting and fines won't do much because you still have incompetent refs who will pick and choose. A player they obviously don't care for like a Cam, I'm sure they'll conveniently miss it. Why? It doesn't really affect them. They need to suffer some type of punishment that's heavier than a change in grade or missing the playoffs.

I figure if they don't start calling poo then they should only be allowed to do preseason games and that's it the more they miss the less they get to officiate the more inaccurate they are the less they get paid and they should be evaluated at the end of the year just like everybody else and if they don't perform like they're supposed to they need to get cut. They should constantly brush up on the rules and what it looks like but honestly I think the rules need to be simplified the more detailed and Tedious it is the harder it is to officiate so it's just not the refs its the overall system that needs to be fixed

If I were Cam, I would put the NFL on notice they I am planning to sue for the head shots I have taken.  Than take all the videos of the head shots were nothing was called and compare them to similar shots other QBs have taken where the calls are made.    It would so a biased towards other QBs.

The NFL has to be held accountable.  In my opinion, the NFL is allowing these refs to ignore the rule because he is a large man.  The NFL does not stipulate size and every time he is hit in the head helmet to helmet should be called.   The guy is 6'5" and if a defender is going to hit him in the head.  HE HAS TO LAUNCH HIMSELF TO DO IT.  On the rare occasion where Cam lowers his head I can understand but most headshots they are launching at him.

I think I would sue the Refs union. Really more there fault because it's up to them to keep standards high. Honestly they are the ones really screwing over the NFL. The NFL has a concussion protocol and rules about head shots.

The NFL has targeted a player for concussion for the first time in history. It's documented by the media and there is tons of video evidence of the bias. No rule change or disciplinary action will work if the refs and the NFL deny anything ever happened in the first place.

The system works for Drew Brees so....

This is why the NFL should pay full time refs they can hold accountable or make penalties reviewable from NYC. Also a targeting system needs to be added. 15 yards for a QB or WRs carrier is not enough.

Absolutely, and anyone (outside the NFL and Refs) can see that there is a clear discrepancy in how they call these calls for NFL QBs and how they call them for Cam.

Hell roll up every flag thrown for Captain Cry Baby (Brady) and the case is closed.

What truly aggravates me the most is how if you are smaller than 6'5" how do you hit a man in the head without launching yourself UP.  Cam in not a head down runner.  They only way you can hit him in the head is to launch yourself or hit him as he goes down.

Is there or has there ever been a player in the NFL who was blatantly allowed by NFL referees to be abused on the field outside the rules Sunday after Sunday as Cam Newton is/has been?

I don't believe it's racial, I believe it's the referee's "club" punishing Cam for his run in with one of the worst officials in the NFL. Ed Hochuli.

Only way this will change is if these hacks are replaced with Professional, full time referees answerable to a review board.

Should the nfl adopt a rule like targeting in college. Maybe not quite as strict but some hits should lead to automatic ejection. I dont think a 15 yd penalty and a small fine is enough for these head shots.

I would say obj on norman should have. Some of burficts hits. Honestly, i think darien stewarts hit on cam this year was flagrant.

On the one hand i sorta feel they should but i also dont trust the refs to enforce it fairly at all.

Curious what others think on that.

If the NFL actually cares about lowering the amount of head to head hits they need to start suspending people for it, fines aren't gonna do it. If a player is not getting penalized during a game for targeting/making helmet to helmet hits he is going to continue to do it and it well make him seem like he is having a solid to really good performance. Now a fine to him is not a big deal because he can expext to still be able to play, meanining he'll have more opportunities for some more good performances which can lead to a bigger contract down the road. Offsetting the fine and making it a petty punishment.

And there is no policing of the officials. So they have free reign to do as they please. If we had a owner like Robert Craft he would put the refs union on blast and have 10 reporter camped outside there other jobs asking questions. Yet we get the most spineless owner who will sacrifice any of his players for the NFL.

Agree. But they also need to start with officiating crews if they really want to be taken serious regarding player safety. This whole thing is such a domino effect. Goodell should've been put on notice by the org which in turn would've put the refs union on notice. This is why I get so bothered when I read "DG and Jerry are handling it classy!" Certain situations require you to side step a little and this is one. You always go above and beyond to protect your house and all of its assets.
