If Gano doesn't miss in Denver the season is completely different and also his misses literally cost us 3 games and arguably 4....with everyone elses fug ups ignored Gano could have gotten us a 10-6 record with his leg.

Top 3 money I expect that.....but yea he didn't

I would argue our secondary or OL cost us more

LOL! wow I ...ROFL top 3 paid kicker holy poo...

Yea....Gman losing points rapidly man...I really like the guy but he needs a good offseason....wut....he was never worth anything near that even when he wasn't missing FGs every game.

UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Gano had more value when it was harder to get touch backs.  Now teams don't want touch backs

I was sticking up for Gano back in 2014, at one point he was like Teflon Don to me.

Now? If you want to go to bat for him, you better know what you're getting into. Our franchise quarterback has been dragged through the mud this year, but he damn sure isn't the 3rd top paid quarterback in the league.

How many times did the D or O not do their job and put it on him? Like I said, he did have a bad year and I would have competition and a guy on speed dial but....I'd give him one more go

even Kasay had seasons he missed a lot. Granted Kasay made most of his late game memorable ones

Yea when our STs sucked instead of improving coverage we just got him to kick it out of the back of the endzone I agree....of course we could have improved our speed and coverage(like we have now).

But yea I don't like that rule anyway and he'd be more useful if they moved the kick offs back which they won't do so he's a liability now honestly.

I get nervous about paying a kicker based off of a career year.  You often run the chance of them regressing back to what they have always been.

Personally I wouldn't be upset over spending a draft pick on a kicker, a 6th or 7th.  I would think the success rate for a kicker drafted that late in the draft would have to be much higher then any other position.  A sixth round pick would probably get you the 1-3 best kicker in the country.  Also you have a fixed, cheap cost for 4 years.

that's why I said I don't want to put all of the blame on one guy, but when Gano was given the opportunity win us the game, he failed. every time. Boswell and Crosby stepped up to the plate and delivered. The steelers didn't even score a fugging TD.

such is the life of a kicker.

2016 Gano would have lost that duel for sure. Those guys were clutch even after getting "iced". Such is the accuracy of a professional.

Kasey at times was the only reason we won games. We were spoiled back then. Kasey was money.

I've said it before but clutch kickers are few and far between. Unless we can pry someone else's off their roster, we are stuck with Gano unless we want to gamble on an unknown that has a strong leg.

It is worth mentioning that Greg Zuerlein is available. Seems like the best option that I can tell.

The Patriots let Vinatieri go to draft an unknown from Memphis in Gostkowski.

GaNO MUST GO

Gano is at 79% during the regular season and is was ranked at 29th in the league. Why do we put up with mediocrity?

.

Because he makes a cute online sympathy post and has a cute wife?  I D@MN sure hope not.

Yea, I'm with everyone who says there's no way Gano would've went 6-6 yesterday. If we were in a game like that, we would've lost.

I don't know the answer with what to do with Gano. I'd probably bring him back, but I'd draft a kicker or bring in a kicker in free agency to provide some competition.

Drafting a kicker AND paying GaNO his insane kicker salary would be investing WAY too much capital in the position.

For those that don't want to invest a draft pick, don't feel comfortable with a rookie, and don't want to trade, Stephen Hauschka will be a FA.  Here's a guy that was a HUGE part of their Super Bowl and is 12-14 from 50+ over the last 4 years!

GaNO's cap hit/performance/return on investment/comfort level is currently the worst thing in the Panthers organization, surpassing the shield at midfield.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
