Nah it's a restructure pushing guarantees down the road, but he still has plenty of tread left, especially if we draft a replacement and he gets to split carriers like he did at the beginning of his career. 

Also, it's only a one year extension, not like a Hurney 8 year deal. Next year will be the last on his contract and after that he either won't be re-signed or he'll be kept on at a cheaper price for another couple years because he'll be like 32.

I dunno i think carolina could have worked out a better extention after the draft if they took a rb.  They would have had the leverage over stewart. Extending him this early kinda signals that their not looking at rb early in the draft.
