Ah the old "but who could he have drafted?!" Argument! Classic and pathetic.

All you nuthuggers sit here and ride the guys dick about his ability to evaluate talent yet I told y'all Ealy was a blown pick when it happened. I was wanting Allen Robinson and we also could've had Jarvis Landry but Gettleman just couldn't resist. The saddest part is that Gettleman said he had a 1st round grade on Ealy, LOL!

As far as the tackle situation goes I wanted to sign Jared Veldheer when he was available. "But but the cap" If LT was that important to Gettleman he could've made some sacrifices then to take on a contracts like Veldheer's at the time.

At some point you guys that go above and beyond to defend Gettleman really need to realize just how little this guy has done. Don't come back with the whole 3 playoff appearances bullsh*t either. Gettleman AND this coaching staff were the beneficiaries of the natural progression made by the core of this team combined with a weak division.

Now here we are, sitting on 70 some odd million in cap space? We have some serious holes but we also have a good foundation. There is literally NO EXCUSE this offseason not to fill these holes properly through the draft and FA. This is Gettleman's last chance imo or he needs to be shown the door. He has all the resources to fix this, will he? I definitely have my doubts

Yeah DG made mistakes last season, and they trickled all the way through the team. But, not to get too cliche, who hasn't made mistakes in their lives. All we can do is learn and move on. But no, let's dwell on the past and be miserable.

So "many" posters foresaw Kalil and his backup getting hurt, Oher going out with a career threatening head injury, only 1 O linemen being in his natural position all season....etc.....

Yea, I'm sure many did.

Yes many knew Oher  was a stop gap and fools gold to expect/count on multiple seasons...all the other issues are common and should be prepared for but the lack of foresight and development at OT exacerba...uh...just made things worse...The bones fell ...

And, don't get me started on TE. Hunter Henry was the guy last year that may have made the most immediate, if not long term, impact on this team. That was our moment, but what does Gettleman do? He picks another DT. And don't tell me about Butler (who I like), or Short. I don't wanna hear it.

There is nothing misguided about lack of investment on the offense if anything your skewing information to match your view points

- many of the top defensive players are overrated and do not fit scheme wise for Panthers

- there Is top Tier offensive talent that will have immediate impact on this offense

@FootballLivesMatter

@CRA

@truthjuice

@KillerKat

 is there top offensive talent that will have an immediate impact on offense?  IMO there isn't on the OL....which is the biggest need.

We could find an impactful WR or TE or RB in this draft and likely could find one of those without even having to use the 8th pick in the draft on it.

This is a good draft for RBs and TEs IMO.

You want to go back and look at our cap situation in 2014, and compare it to what Veldheer got?

My guess is probably not.

According to Charlie Campbell there's still hope for McGlinchey, this was from his mock Friday...

  1. panthersb_logo.gif Carolina Panthers: Mike McGlinchey, OT, Notre Dame  NotreDame_logo.gif
    The Panthers made a huge mistake not upgrading their offensive tackles last offseason. This coming offseason, Carolina has to get at least one tackle upgrade to protect Cam Newton.

    McGlinchey has suggested he could return for his senior year, but has sought the recommendation of the NFL advisory board as well. Will Fuller said the same thing last year about going back to school before entering the 2016 NFL Draft, and Stephon Tuitt said something similar before he entered the draft early. Thus, I'm not moving McGlinchey to my 2018 Mock NFL Draft just yet. In speaking to contacts in South Bend, they think McGlinchey will declare for the 2017 NFL Draft, but head coach Brian Kelly has suggested McGlinchey will return.

    McGlinchey was very impressive at left tackle for the Fighting Irish in 2016. He looked natural in pass protection, and one wouldn't have thought that he wasn't playing the position before 2016.

    McGlinchey has excellent feet to get depth in his kick slide and cut off speed rushers. As a run blocker, McGlinchey can get movement at the point of attack. He flashes heavy hands to push defenders out of their gaps and open holes for his back. McGlinchey also has a nice ability to bend at the knee, and that in combination with his feet, keeps him from having to reach after edge rushers. His performance in 2016 protecting DeShone Kizer is evidence that McGlinchey is a future starting left tackle in the NFL and a first-round pick.

    McGlinchey (6-7, 310) is a tough run blocker and has been part of a good Notre Dame line for years. In 2015, he showed well as a right tackle and had a more physical style of play than former Notre Dame left tackle Ronnie Stanley.

Gettleman has had plenty of opportunity to upgrade the offense. Dixon was almost the worst TE in football with actual snaps, and Jared Cook signs with the Packers. Sometimes there has to be more than just  an interest, sometimes you just have to make it happen.

THAT DOESN'T MATTER.

ADDRESS THE T POSITION.

Honestly, I can't see at this point a viable T at the 8, or possibly in the top 15...but whatever.

We will likely need to pick up a T in FA if we are looking for a starter.

P.S. I hope we do.

I preferred Hunter as well, that was a mistake IMO.  That said, there would be people howling at the moon on here after that pick.....as we have a future HOF'er in Olsen that still looks great.

There's always ways to manuveur contracts and crap to fit another in. Would it have hurt our cap down the road? Sure, but it would've given us security at LT all these years.

Every year you guys sit here and tell me how the Saints literally have NO money, yet they had no issues with handing out a retarded contract to Fleener this past offseason. I'm not defending the move I'm just saying they usually find a way to bring on more contracts with little to no cap.

I just think some drafts are better geared to meet certain needs than others.

QB for example.  Some teams might really need a QB.  Some years teams really reach because they need a QB.  I don't think it is always worth drafting the 2nd best QB in a weak draft class just because you need one.  Some years you might be reaching on a gamble QB when a super stud OT could be on the table. Sometimes a FA/vet bandaid makes sense until the draft makes sense for it.

OTs in this draft just don't impress.  Other positions do more to me.   Therefore draft the areas of need that this draft is strong in.

I'd be disappointed in a OT at #8 and OT to me is the biggest need on the roster.

I suggested then that we should skip tagging Hardy---let him walk---and use some of that money to sign Veldheer, and explore using the rest on a receiver.
