How is Cody Zeller, a perfectly fine starting center, a terrible pick? He's better than Noel and Alex Len

I'd still love to have Noel as his backup, but Zeller is a better overall player with a far more refined offensive game

Defense is terrible. He's a decent player but no way he should be a starter.

Cody has been a pleasant surprise this season, this year he actually had a full offseason with the mindset that he will be playing the C position and not PF, but he has been banged up a bit..

MKG is the topic though and I am in the right mind to go get Rudy Gay now - it has gotten that bad.. smh

This thread makes me feel like people on here are watching the Hornets every so often and not on a nightly basis. MKG may not have scored last night, but that's also not necessarily his role on this team which is to bring energy and guard the opposing team's best player. Both of which he does better than anyone else on our roster.

Sure he had 0 points last night, but the game prior in San Antonio he had 12 points in 30 minutes while going 6-9 from the field. That includes a 4-5 clip on mid range jumpers. He also held Kawhi Leonard to 7-18 shooting and 3-10 from three which is hard af to do as Leonard is a legitimate top 10 player in the league.

Would it be nice if he was more consistent on offense? Yes, but that's not his role. It also doesn't mean he is a waste of a #2 pick either. Who would we rather have gotten? Bradley Beal who is an absolute locker room cancer in Washington? Harrison Barnes is a good player but we have a Barnes esque player in Batum as it is. Damian Lillard is great but we had and still have Kemba.

MKG out of college was worthy of being selected where he was. He's just at a disadvantage because most major stats are geared towards offense and there are very few stats or indicators that properly illustrate defensive value.

you must be new here.. I have been a defender of MKG for a long time and it has gotten indefensible this year.. I kept saying "give him time" "his shot is improving" "he is an elite defender".. but knowing the excuses were wearing thin..

for the #2 OVERALL pick - you can't be taken where MKG was and not be considered a bust at this point.. Beal, Barnes, Drummond would all be massively better at this point for us.. a can go into breaking him down but have done it many times already.. we need to ship him out or put him on the bench (which you can't do to the #2 overall - the main reason he needs to be shipped out)..

I get where you're coming from and certainly won't argue you on Drummond. If you view MKG and his stats, his draft position, etc in a vacuum, then yea you'll be disappointed in him.

From my perspective, what MKG's strengths are are far and away the best on our team. A large reason imo that he's getting an influx of criticism  is because the team is currently in a slump during a brutal stretch of their schedule. When your team is losing people immediately look to see which starters aren't carrying the load offensively and cast blame.

The fact of the matter is that the NBA's statistics are so heavily geared towards offense in a time where the NBA is as good offensively as it has ever been. There are just no good advanced statistical measurements to enhance value in what MKG is actually good at.

So to me, a lot of the MKG hate is unjustified. Feel free to disagree if you'd like. There are many more pressing concerns for this Hornets roster than MKG imo
