McDermott to Buffalo Bills

The first two seasons the team was rebuilding from 2-14.   2013 2nd in defense, top in sacks, 2015 superbowl elite D. 2014 and 2016 roster overhaul in secondary. Despite this we have consistently been near the top on sacks. To win in the league you need to create pressure on the qb and McD is great at disguising blitzes.  In the last few years we lost alot at DE (Greg Hardy, Frank Alexander, CJ is a shell of 2013 etc) and have had constant turnover in the secondary. I feel losing McD is a big loss. Alot of total yardage inflation yards in our seasons have come from slow starts out of the gate and our conservative offense approach in 4th qtr's of games, always depending on the D to bend but dont break.(<this is the part Rivera influences.)

I understand that we rely on a bend but don't break system...which is why the above rankings are based on points scored.  That's the only category that matters.  And he has not consistently fielded defenses that are great at keeping opponents from scoring.

Bills hired Sean McDermott as their new head coach.

While both have defensive backgrounds, McDermott seems to be about the polar opposite of his predecessor, Rex Ryan. McDermott isn't bringing the flash and flare to Buffalo only to see empty promises follow. The 43-year-old (in March) has been a defensive coordinator for the past eight seasons, working under Andy Reid and legendary DC Jim Johnson in Philadelphia before becoming Ron Rivera's right-hand man in Carolina. He's fully expected to switch Buffalo to a 4-3 front, an idea the Bills' players have been clamoring for since Ryan was fired. McDermott has never been a head coach at any level. Nailing his offensive coordinator choice will be important. He's expected to give ex-Chargers coach Mike McCoy a ring.

And you base that on what gameday play calling?

No wilks does no playcalling, but does some singaling to DBs. When Rivera was hired he wanted wilks as his DC then, but San Diego blocked the move. Ron had to move on, hired recently fired McDermott. One year later wilks came back home(funny cause the panthers DB coach meeks went to San Diego). He's will respected among the whole org. Even bill echoed this - Black & Blue Review @BlackBlueReview. have talked to a few folks who think Wilks would be a bigger loss than McDermott

please don't believe this a knock towards McDermott, he's great coach. Wilks is just a little better.
