To be fair, of the last ~10 or so, not many fans were expecting much outside of maybe Manziel.

Mind you, it's not like Cleveland hasn't managed to draft terrifically talented players. They absolutely have.

I think it's a lot of reaching in the draft as well -- of those that were first round picks, only one or two were were universally (or even just a majority) thought of as true day 1 talents.

I just think they can't put the whole package together. Impatience with coaches and GMs certainly doesn't help.

It's one thing to find a lot of nice looking puzzle pieces; but if you can't mold them together into a single image, then all you've ultimately got is a bunch of funny shapes.

Oh I definitely agree -- I was only speaking to their QB drafting. Overall roster construction has been head-scratching as well, despite HOF or ProBowl talents at a few positions.

Shifting coaches all too frequently certainly doesn't make it easy to develop anybody.

And that's the thing. Watson could be legitimately all word talented but still fail to make the transition to the pros if he's poorly coached.

Pitt and FSU are the only two games where I saw Trubisky shine. And the Pitt game was double sided, as Mitch's early incompetence got UNC behind enough so that a miracle passing comeback was needed.

That's the facet of all the great "comeback artists" that gets ignored a lot.

Sometimes the reason they need a comeback is because they put themselves in a hole

I don't think it's outlandish to think that Trubisky would go before Watson. You judge the complete body of work, including decision making, mechanics, improvement, ability to learn, etc.

As for the Browns, right now ownership is sold on the advanced metrics and more analytical approach that Hue, Sashi Brown and company are committed to using to help transform the franchise into a winner. I say this to emphasize that it's a new day. Don't get your hopes up that they're going to pass on Garrett. Or, they could do just like last year and get a king's ransom for the top spot.
