Staley and Thomas won't be traded, especially considering both teams need a QB upgrade. Both teams have said they don't want to trade them.

It's 2017 and a TOTALLY new outfit in San Francisco/Santa Clara.  The Cowboys probably said they wouldn't trade Herschel Walker to take the pressure off their new QB either before Jimmy Johnson took the reigns.

You do realize that eh Herschel Walker trade is largely considered one the the worst, and most lopsided trades in NFL history right?

Of course.  But at the time Walker was one of the biggest names in sports in a RB dominated league and only 27 years old.  It made sense to the fools in Minnesota at the time.  Staley will be 33 before opening day and that franchise is going nowhere in the short term.  A win/win CAN be found.

The problem with Oher is, all we have to hang our hat on regarding the possibility that he is going to be back next year is a bunch of random "sources" saying he isn't ready to retire.

When you throw that on top of the already overwhelming issues we have to address, many of which already happen to be within our OL depth, it is a recipe for disaster that Stevie Wonder could see coming a mile away.

If our FO drops the ball again, seats better be on fire.

Michael Oher with Williams opposite of him is not a bad tandem, long as we invest in a RB/TE combo.

We do not need all the draft picks this year & should acquire an extra 2nd round pick.

Use FA on DE/S/CB

Extend - KK,Star, Norwell, & Trai

Rise of QB stock should be intresting with several teams in need of a starter.

1-RB

2-OT

2-TE

3-DE

4-SS

Weak OT draft. Rather go to FA there. S, DE, RB, CB, and TE are IMO the positions we should look at in the draft...then hit FA for the spots that didn't fall to us

Yes... but FA comes before the draft

There are always quality vets that come avaliable after the draft and before the season starts.

I'd like us to improve our OL in free agency and then after the draft pick some vet bandaids as needed this year at holes we didn't shore up with our first couple draft picks.

This is literally the Alamo. If we can't fix it proactive, fix it reactive.

Anyone know why we arent high on Cam Robinson for LT in the draft? as mentioned in the Fournette thread, I'd love to get Fournette but we will see more improvements with upgrades on the O-Line. in fact I'd would be totally OK with the Panthers double dipping on the O-line in the draft. we need help bad there.

I haven't seen that anyone responded to this.

Cam Robinson doesn't have the athleticism to to be Left Tackle. He would be be eaten alive by even average speed rushers. I'm actually not sold that he'd even do a serviceable job at pass protection at Right Tackle, either, although he's strong ennough to be an asset in the run game. This guy wouldn't even be a third rounder most drafts, but since the talent level is so sparse, he's being talked about as a first rounder.

OK... he's a thought...

The Philadelphia Eagles are in cap hell for 2017. One name that has been talked about as a possible cut is former Pro Bowl LT Jason Peters. He's a bit long in the tooth (he turns 35 later this month), but could be a nice stop-gap until we can get a draft pick ready.

I'm all in favor of trading for one of the older big name vets.  Thomas, Staley, Peters mentioned above...don't really care. At this point, a draft pick is worth the 2-3 years we hopefully get out of them to help fix our line issues.

No, I wouldn't be crazy about let's say...trading a 2nd round pick for one of those guys. But, a lot better getting the sure thing (IMO), than drafting a guy we "hope" develops into a decent OT.
