I mean to be fair, he never assaulted Jake no matter how many people wanted him to.

Steve Smith the football player in games is a guy you would want in your corner, undoubtedly. His fire, and passion for the game are admirable.

Unfortunately those same attributes nearly put his career in jeapordy.

But to use him or his approach to drag down Newton as a teammate/leader is pretty stupid.

When people ask me who my all time favorite player is I always pause.

Alltime always meant old timers so my first answer is Earl Campbell.

I always follow it quickly with, but the greatest I've ever watch with my own eyes is Steve Smith.

His highlights are just amazing.  My favorite player to watch and it was made more special because he played for my team.

Thank you Steve for giving this fan mermories and stories I will tell not only my children but anyone that will sit still long enough to listen.

He literally just retired a Raven.

Like in a retirement letter on Raven's letterhead, while copying the Raven's GM.

There are no one day contracts or any such nonsense. He is done with the NFL, and went out as a Raven.

I'm really not trying to be a dick but did some of you read a different letter than I did?

Not that it matters but retiring is all ceremonial.  He was on his last year of his contract so there's no real retirement letter that is anything but ceremonial. I'm not holding my breath but nothing prevents a symbolic retirement as a Panther.

Yea, it's over. He retired a Raven.

Welp, time to move on from this topic. If there's a ceremony for him here, cool. If not, *shrugs*

I don't really care one way or another, but since the new league year hasn't started his contract with Baltimore is still in effect. He is (was?) still technically a Raven by contract at the time of the letter.

I get the point though. Again, I don't care either way.

He's still under contract until free agency starts.

I'd still wait and see if he does anything. Letter was in the Raven sentiment due to the fact he's still under contract.

There's always hope.

What's important is the celebration when he goes into the Pro Football HOF. There won't be politics, there will be former friends, coaches but most importantly the players he shared the field with. How fun would it be to have Delhomme introduce him. Anyway, posterity will remember Smitty as a Panther, as it should be, and how I will always remember Carolina's greatest player to date.

God I love me some Smitty.

I agree. My point is this isn't MLB where you have to pick what cap you are wearing in the HOF. Football players simply get into the hall, the team(s) they played for are shown on a plaque under the bust.

Retiring as a Panther or some other such nonsense doesn't really matter.

20 years from now he will be in the Hall and be remembered as a Panther, not a Raven. Just as Jerry Rice is remembered as a Niner, not a Raider, despite having some productive years in Oakland.

    • i felt good for those few games that bryce didn't look like the worst in the league. all that fell apart again sunday.  i'm borderline just bailing on it all. i've been hanging on by a thin thread for several years. i mean it's not even fun to watch any football right now.
