Playoff teams didn't get to be playoff teams by having to rob a non playoff team's practice squad

That may be true however injuries have a terrible habit of hitting people at the worst of times. It is a big reason why I posed the hypothetical question. If a team was to be bit by the bug would they be able to sign a person the was previously on a future contract or are they bound by it? Don't really expect it to happen so it is really just a question out of curiosity to be honest. Never hurts to learn more on a subject lol.

I'm pretty sure this guy makes the 53 as a ST Ace and Colin Jones replacement, we needed some gunners that were damn big hitters flying in from the sideline. This guy drops the Hammer, nice addition.

I like Jones on ST, the problem is he's not very good at his position. If this guy can do both, good. As long as Teddy Williams doesn't come back!

McCray was signed by the San Francisco 49ers on May 10, 2014 after going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft.[4] He made his NFL debut on September 7, 2014 against the Dallas Cowboys.[5]

On September 3, 2016, McCray was traded to the Seattle Seahawks for an undisclosed draft pick,[6] but failed his physical examination with them, voiding the trade.[7] He was then waived by 49ers on September 5, 2016.[8]

SANTA CLARA -- Safety L.J. McCray is back with the 49ers after failing a physical with the Seahawks, a league source confirmed Monday. News of the transaction first was reported by the NFL Network.

The 49ers traded McCray, 25, to Seattle on Saturday for a late-round draft pick. He had been recovering from a knee injury suffered in 2015. McCray played 58 snaps in Thursday’s preseason finale against the Chargers and had six tackles in the game. He played 21 snaps a week earlier. However, he was held out of the team’s first two preseason games.
