Stewy had 47 Rec. in Cam's first year. So Cam can throw the dump offs. The question is, why doesn't he? He talks about it all the time. "I need to take those lay-ups". Then he doesn't take those lay-ups.

 

Cam is the only one that can control where the ball goes.

 

 

I think a big part of it this year was we had to max protect so much that Cam didn't really have a checkdown option. And when we did have Stew leak out late we got greendog blitzed so much Cam was likely getting hit before his progression got him to his last option. Now I don't have any imperical data or video to back this up but it is just my impression of what happened this season.

Trying to do too much. When we constantly have a predictable run game where we're just slamming Stewart up the middle into a logjam when the entire stadium knows it's coming, and we're once again forced into a 3rd and long situation, no, he's not gonna dump it off.

But the reality is, we aren't gonna win games dumping off to RB's all game the same way we aren't going to win kicking field goals, especially when our kicker is Ray Finkle.

So with all that in mind, if you're still wondering why Newton was always looking downfield, you can't really be helped.

Another reason we were in 3rd and longs? Incomplete passes on 1st down, and a short run on 2nd down. It was not all because we ran, ran, then had a 3rd and long. Our Offense works best when we are hitting those short passes on 1st down. Setting up 2nd and shorts. And using Stewy in that phase of the passing game can be just as effective.

 

So yes you can use your RB in the passing game. Get you back out in open space, yeah, it's a good way to get your RB some easy yards, and move the chains. After all, that's what it's all about. Moving the chains.

 

As I said. Stewy had 47 receptions Cams Rookie year. So Cam can use the dump offs. Cam is the one that decides where the ball goes. Whatever the reason might be, he just seems to like going deep more than taking those lay-ups when they are there.

 

Most teams know they are not going to win kicking FGs. Are you saying that Cam does not take those "Lay-ups" because he is worried about only getting 3 points? Because I can pretty much guarantee that every time Cam starts a drive, he is thinking TD.

those highlights would've been a lot more fun if we'd just won two or three of those close games

I know that's what makes this damn season so heartbreaking everything was just so close but not close enough we lost to Denver by one point and people all of a sudden we're down on us and I just set the whole tone for the season in a spend down word ever cents when it's close we just lose it whether it be because of coaches whether it be because of the no or because of players or just plain look for the other team
