Steve got cut for one simple reason. They wanted to put the offense in Cam Newton's hands. With Steve Smith around there could be no other leader.

Smith and Jake Delhomme we're able to work well together because they grew together and Jake could be the fiery emotional leader alongside Smith. Cam's personality and Steve's tenure just was not going to work from a leadership perspective.

You are probably close to it. But also remember. If we had signed Smitty, The last 3 years of that contract would have kicked in. We would have had to pay him over 20mil for those last 3 years. The way that 13 season went, it just didn't look like a very good option.

So it was part giving Cam a shot at leading the team. And it was part not wanting to pay Smitty that much money.

Look at the DG squad try to rationalize an obvious tweet that Oher likely got a call on and had to take down.

Now, who would call Oher and ask him to remove that comment? Maybe his employer?

Do you honestly think Steve Smith would call Oher and ask him to remove the comment and Oher gladly removed it if it was a slight at Smith to begin with?

I told you that players in the locker room do not give any value to the words that come out of Gettleman's mouth. The business comments by players are the same as the loyalty comment from Oher. The difference is they can use the 'business' line since it comes straight from Gettleman. A tweet directly taking a shot at Gettleman's views on loyalty will be reprimanded and ordered to be removed since they are still employed by the organization in question.

Keep pretending like this issue does not exist.

Not a day goes by where it is not confirmed you are the dumbest poster on this board. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about and state things as fact. Once again you couldn't be more wrong.

no, i think it makes more sense that oher was openly taking shots at the general manager who just gave him a contract extension and essentially saved his career.  it also makes a lot of sense that he'd stick up for a guy who had been gone for a year by the time he signed with the panthers and also happened to play for oher's former team who unceremoniously kicked him to the curb.

you guys just don't understand the dynamics of this team like cpantherking does

When Gettleman yanks Oher's $6.8M in bonuses and $12.9M in base salary off the table to turn his 3 year $21.6M contract with a $4M signing bonus into a $2.5M 1 year pay raise, then you will understand the the loyalty snipe at Gettleman.

If Oher retires voluntarily, he loses $2.5M. If Oher retires due to a concussion on the field, then he gets that money from 2016. You are witnessing a game of chicken between Oher and Gettleman. Oher is done with football, but he can not do it voluntarily or he will lose millions. So, he must say he plans on returning until the league doctors and team determine the concussion keeps him from playing football, or he is cut from the team guaranteeing he will receive the $2.5M. The independent doctors were the ones differing with the league's assessment and holding the concussion protocol up for Oher's benefit.

Do not expect Oher to be back in a Panthers uniform on game day. At most, you will see Oher show up for his contractual commitments, complain about headaches again, and just walk around the practice field. His contact days are over.

He just wants his $2.5M from the Panthers and then he will retire. I would not be surprised if Oher tries to game the Panthers now. I know he and Gettleman have not been talking with each other since mid-season. Oher has been avoiding the front office and the media. The last thing Oher publicly did was hint at retirement and his concern for his health.

Make of it what you will, but it is apparent Oher and Gettleman are not getting along well with each other.
