Addison, Ealy and CJ ideally should be rotational pieces on a DL.

We need starting DEs and the answer isn't on the roster.

I agree, was just saying ideally we keep our 2 best ones we currently have, of course at the right price and let them stay on as rotational players.

I feel the same way about him as I did Ealy last offseason.  JAG.

If he will play for JAG money, give him JAG money.  If he wants money for being more than that, say buh-bye.  This is of course under the assumption a GM would then go replace the JAG with an equally talented JAG and not look on his practice squad and continue downgrading.

Its a lot easier to say that we can easily let him go and replace him with equal production then actually doing it. This isn't Madden.

Only issue is Carolina IMO is known to take care of securing these backup/rotational types quick.....then next you know Carolina decides that should be good enough

that was my biggest issue with bringing back CJ. Carolina then was content about doing really nothing at DE this past offseason

The Panthers did nothing in several areas.

And doing nothing in the NFL only makes your team worse while everyone else is working to get better.

I would be ok with CJ starting at one DE, since he is still a pretty good run defender, and can still get after the passer at a decent clip.  Addison would replace him on passing downs, with Ealy or maybe Horton rotating in.  We do need a starter opposite opposite CJ though.

I think this is one of those mistakes Dave was referring to.

KK gets the tag and Addison gets 4 yrs @ $30M. CJ is as good as gone.
I've always thought Addison is the most athletic and fastest DE this team has had since Peppers.

I'd argue that hewhoshallnotbenamedonthissite was better before he went crazy, beat up his gold digger girl friend, got paid big to take the year off and died miserably in Dallas. And I am not lobbying for his return!

I think Addison will get an overpriced deal from some DE hungry team.  I've always viewed him as a specialist, not an every down DE. I like him as a rotational piece on a sweetheart deal, but unless he takes less money to remain with us, I could see DG replacing him with a guy like 20-year old Derek Barnett in the draft on an amazing 5 year rookie deal or maybe with a top FA signing like Chandler Jones or JPP, and re-signing CJ on another cheap deal.

I love what Addison brought, but on a contract year, and given that he wasn't an every down DE, I'm hesitant to put too much dough into his contract. 3 year/ 6MM per is what I'm thinking. Anything more, and he can be replaced.
