I really don't think it is as simple as the league adjusting.  Injuries played a large part and some of it the players just didn't play as good.

I see four primary reasons for our lousy season (in no particular order)

1) I would definitely include the league adjusting to our offense.  Atlanta & Denver gave them a blueprint.

2) Defense Player Turnover led to lack of communication in the defensive backfield early in the season - meant we got no pressure up front.  Luke & others (Coleman)  trying to do too much.  Defense was a mess for much of the time the first 4 or 5 games... Look how our turnover numbers (especially Coleman's) improved after the bye...

3) injuries. (to Oher & Kalil, especially, and then Luke)

4) And finally a big reason was a bunch of players not meeting expectations (Ealy, KB, Funchess, Delaire, Bene, KK to an extent early in the season, and perhaps even the TE group apart from Greg.  Shula was clearly wanting a 2nd TE and we didn't find one...)

I am with him on our coaches...I am not down on them like everyone else

But for him to say he gave them the players to win is BS

He is the one that failed us this year

We will see if his ego gets out of the way and he gets us the players we need

All three failed the team..Dave, Ron and Shula. Dave for not getting better players for exposed personel from last yr. He added nothing to make us better but subtracted. Shula same plays bad playcalling. Offense exposed during superbowl to say teams dont have the DEs to attack us was not necessarily true...they dont have to be quick live Denver..just send more blitzers and we are done because of our bad receivers, blown blocks, Cam's waiting for slow receivers and reluctant to run maybe due to injury or whatever..but really the no adjustments.  Ron is to blame for deciding bad personel on the field whose active, clock management and management of special teams and offensive coaches..he should have recognized what they did not see and got in their poo to fix it...it is a dominoe affect.  Yes Dave didn't  upgrade the team but we were in all games except i think 2 or 3..if we had a better coach and better OC we would be in the playoffs with the garbage players that we have ...Ron and Shula are to blame..granted Cam and the players could have executed some plays better but Coaches are to be held at a higher standard than the players because they are the decision makers. When KB was messing up big time he should have been out the game same for tolbert, and dickson. You sit Cam down for a tie but will not get KB or tolbert something to thing about. Tolbert should not even be playing.

So basically he took no blame for the horrible play of our o-line, or the fact that we were playing rookies in the secondary that routinely got burnt, or the lack of quality depth at several positions...

He said he's holding himself accountable and said he has to do better. Kinda the opposite of taking "no blame".

I won't get a chance to watch this until tomorrow as I'm dealing with a very limited internet connection today.  But from what i've read of all the tweets, and the article at BBR, this is somewhat disappointing.  I was expecting Gettleman to be at least a BIT more specific in some of his comments.

For instance, saying he holds himself accountable is one thing, but left as such a general statement, it's hard to take seriously.  By at least mentioning something broad like "I should have brought in more competition for Oline & Dline depth" would at least give a clear sense that he recognizes a few SPECIFIC mistakes he made.  As of now, it's hard to really get a sense that he has a clear idea of what he did wrong.

But of course, I do understand & agree that he can't be too specific and telegraph his plans to the rest of the league.  I guess we'll just have to see what Dave does.  But that's a long wait still....

Since all of you chicken littles think we aren't going to do anything this offseason, why do you even bother coming into these threads?

It must royally suck to live a pesimistic life.

We're just 1 out of 23 other fanbases are doing the exact same thing right now. Fire this guy, dump that player, sign this guy and so on. Kinda sad but I get some humor out of it as well.

not signing josh not only saved the panthers a ton of money, but it also earned them an extra 3rd round pick which can be traded if need be.

smart teams acquire draft picks. the pats picked up mike floyd and everyone else thought they were dumb to do so, but when he signs with someone else in the offseason, the pats will get a comp pick.

I dont think you can trade a comp pick

and according to you guys, he's a demon that should have been fired two years ago. There is a middle ground here. Last year wasn't great, but he's done more good than harm at GM

Exactly.

The DG supporters all know and willingly admit that last offseason wasn't acceptable.

It's all the FIRE GETTLEDOUCHE extremists that have really made this forum unbearable due to their unwillingness to admit the good that he has done, which far outweighs the bad.
