We would have to sign/tag and trade. We will almostcertianly get a 2018 3ed comp pick in return.... that weve already spent on a punter.

The point I'm making is in regards to the past: the 2016 trade deadline. If we weren't serious about retaining KK, we should have shopped him at the deadline.

DG's botched ordeal with JNO also screws us on the trade front. Why would a team trade us anything for a player we franchise tag when they can wait for us to cut them loose?

Fair point about the comp pick. However, we would have unquestionably done better trading a rookie-deal pro bowl DT, even with an expiring deal, at the trade deadline.

We couldn't trade Norman, cause he refused to sign his tag.

Tag must be signed in order for trades to even be sought.

It's was a 4th but point taken.

Yea... a 3ed comp is basically an early 4th... i averaged and then immediately regretted not being more specific.

Side note, im all for the tag n trade... we could get a 1st for KK if we had his rights. But the tag n trade is unheard of IRL and would require KKs approval of the recieving team to be in the realm of feasable.

Also, tag n trade would be dead money free, iirc.

KK is gone, imo. I posted in another sites thread ablut this... long story short (pun intended) is that we drafted his replacement last year.

Basically Dave's going to have to trust KK to sign the tag or at least feel certain he can reach an amicable agreement on a contract for him to apply it.   It sounds that KK may not sign so it doesn't look good for him being here next year.   Good thing we got Butler huh?

Yea,

Imo, Star is the real "star" of the DTs. KK gets in the QBs face, and that is awesome, but we need run stopping block eaters at DT.

Much like Ngata and Lewis, Kuechly needs a guy to keep blockers off of him and Edge pressure...

Shorts talents are a luxury that is just not worth 17M... much like Norman lol.

I look at it this way.  I'd rather have 2 DTs worth 12 mil a year each than 1 at 17 and another at 3 or 4.  I'd over pay 24 for better consistent production instead of 20 for a great play here and there.  But that's just me.

What are you looking to see? If KK will be paid as a top 5 DT? That's what we're arguing. You don't think he should be, and I feel he's worthy of that type of pay.

It not whether you or I believe it, it's whether Dave believes it.  I personally do not think he's worth top 5 money but if Dave does then so be it.  If someone else does then so be it also.  We have a backup plan and that's all I care about.

Everyone eventually signs the tag.  No one nowadays signs it up front.

People acted like Josh not signing it right away was odd/wrong. It is standard now.  KK's agent won't let him sign it either....they will keep pushing for the deal.  If a deal never gets done he will sign it right before the season starts (like everyone else)

Norman was right to be shocked by it being yanked.  GMs don't do that when players don't sign immediately.

That's why I said trust.  With Norman that wasn't going to happen.  Something was said in that meeting that really pissed Dave off enough to say fug it im not going to play this game anymore.  You blame Dave and I see it different.   Dave knows how the game is played with the tag.  He's been around long enough to know that.

Those studs also have to realize that they got to be studs because the team invested heavily in them to get them where they are and need to compromise a bit on their worth.   You can't pay them all top dollar so sacrifices and backup plans have to be made.   If Dave's pays KK what he wants then it's because Dave thinks KK is part of the long term plan going forward.  If not then he ain't and plan B has to step up.  Simple as that.

They did not invest heavy in them money wise...rookie contracts are not full of money...this profession is no different than any other profession they changed the rules for you to prove yourself of big time money..once you do this that is what you expect to be paid based on your performance your work ethic and dedication to your craft...its like that at any job...those of you who say hey he should just take what is being offered..do you not want your raise when you think you have earned it...kk has been consistent this year he has not been as dominant because of double teams but that is still giving someone else the ability to shine..its not his fault that the other person is not doing it...That is why you have pro bowlers bc they exceled at their positions..i agree if you have a team filled with pro bowlers you may not be able to pay everyone..that is when the veteran pros that have made their money should take a paycut to stay put and have a chance at a SB example is Tom Brady.  DG has determine where the worth is and sometimes its not the position put the individual player that makes the team good..I think DG under estimates the value of sustain relationships bc he is too quick to dismiss people who deserve to be paid and think he can just put another body in and it will work just as good. These young guys like kk haven't  seen big money thats what they are playing for right now. ask any of the young guys and they will say yes I will take the money ..championship is good but most like to see the green because they have families to feed. That is why most leave college earlier sure SB is nice but they want money before injuries take hold and their value decreases.

The point is that most of these guys wouldn't be on the field if they hadn't been properly coached to take advantage of their potential, especially Josh.  Hell he was benched for 2 season because he wanted to do things his way.  He became JNo thanks to Ron Steve and Shaun so yes he owes them something.   Yes he can go out and get his money and I'm not saying he shouldn't if that's what matters to him but don't come bitching to the guys who made him because they don't think he's worth handicapping the team.  He got his and if there's another desperate GM willing to pay KK top 5 money then good for KK.  It won't be Dave I can guarantee you that.

Yea, Ron and Crew helped Josh become who he is today, but Josh put in a lot of work to get to where he's at. They alone did not make him. Same goes for KK, and every player on this team. They're the ones with the talent, and the ones who have to actually go out there and perform

You can also flip it, and say most of these coaches and gms wouldn't be in the positions they're in without a player making them look good. It goes both ways.
