The Saints Blitz Better Than Us

Fans love blitzing, but a smart OC can exploit it by going to screens, draws and three-step drops. What you gain in pressure, you lose in coverage.

Generating pressure with only the front four is the best way to go, if you can do it.

Truth be told though, if you have to resort to blitzing to get pressure, you likely have issues.

It really depends on the blitzs. Take a fire zone blitz for instance as you bring an extra blitzer you drop back a dlineman into coverage. The reason I like the 3-4 more then the 4-3 is you can create more creative pressure without being overly exposed to those screens and draws.

Valid, but a solid running game and/or a West Coast style attack can really do damage to a 3-4. That's one of the big reasons I've never jumped on that bandwagon.

I always find myself agreeing with you. But in a perfect world when running the 3-4 you have a all-pro NT like Hampton or Nagta that is stout against the run.

Pretty sure Ngata's been moved to one of the outside spots this season. Kelly Gregg is the starting NT.

It's a valid point though. And those guys don't grow on trees.

When we ran it, we had Greg Kragen. Not exactly your prototypical NT, but he was effective.

I agree it is hard to find them but when you do the 3-4 is special. There moving Ngata I always considered him a great NT, I guess they found a better one.
