Rob Rang has us taking Fournette as well. Rang has Dalvin Cook going to Jax at 4 and BOTH Hooker and Adams gone by our pick

This all will change of course after the combine and pro days but as we all know old Dave do fall for underwear warriors.   He wants guys that are smart, agressive and big.  They better tag that fanny to get his attention.

Which is why imho Barnett sits atop the hypothetical Vegas odds for pick 8.  The production and football character over multiple years trump the Underwear Olympics in Indy.  My mild concern is that Fournette and Barnett both show out well enough at the combine that they go in the top 7.

They just might but it will also cause someone else to drop to us.  The possibilities are endless.

My favorite mock and pick of the whole day was one that had Josh Allen, QB Wyoming, to the Bears at 3.  He's an obviously relatively unknown big strong armed QB that could join the fray and make a Wentz level rise.  Great knowing that there are so many teams in DESPERATE need of a QB.

I don't like Barnett, I've watched a few game cut ups and will continue to find more but not a fan early on. So slow getting off the line. With a top 10 pick I want an elite athlete with a high ceiling that's not Barnett imo. Nothing really makes you go "wow" when you watch him play

If you draft Fournette you make that decision in late February, not April. You build around a player like that, not expect to just drop him into whatever mess we've got at the run game.

He's a terrific player but you make that decision now, not on draft night.

Hell....you do that regardless at this point. Expecially if you can still get a good RB later in this draft.

Those guys, like Peppers, Mario Williams, Clowney, and Garrett, go one or two overall.  We are picking 8.  Barnett has more production and football character than the above guys however and watching cut ups is hardly the way to grade DE play.  The guy again is only 20 years old and if we don't take him the Bengals at 9 or at absolute worst the Saints at 11 will, there's just too much not to like at a premium position.

When did our DE situation get so rosy that we could shun a guy with more sacks than Reggie White?

Ideally I'd like us to address the defensive end position in free agency with all that cap space we're sitting on. In a perfect world we say spend a bit for JPP (if he's allowed to walk) and then take a shot on a guy like Jabaal Sheard (cheaper deal) and hoping he has a bounce back year.

Like I said I'll continue to watch more on Barnett but right now I'm just not a fan, especially at #8. I like explosiveness and that's something he lacks. I realize he's put up stupid numbers over his collegiate career. If he's on the board I expect Gettleman to be all over him.

I like the idea of having a 1500yd rusher with Cam in the backfield. However, the question is whether the OL can produce it and if we're a year away from fixing the OL can Fournette produce regardless? When his OL struggled (look at bama) he often struggled as well.

Good point, although I'd be worried that Walker, Charlton and Thomas (all guys I like) will all be gone before our 2nd.

That said, being at 8 is a good place to be. I hate to say that I'm glad we lost, but I am. We would have been #10 with a win and also #11 in the 2nd round.

Here's the top guys from what I have seen:

Myles Garrett

Jonathan Allen

Leonard Fournette

Malik Hooker

Jamal Adams

Derek Barnett

Cam Robinson

Mike Williams (Corey Davis/John Ross?)

Mike McGlinchey (if he declares)

There are also likely going to be 1 or 2 QBs taken (Kizer and Trubisky?) and maybe a CB or 2 (Humphrey, Lattimore and/or Wilson) as well. Heck maybe even a DT like Malik McDowell sneaks in with a big Senior Bowl/combine. Seems like we will have a lot to choose from at 8. I could easily see 4 of the guys I listed available for us to choose from at 8.

I hope that Kizer, Trubisky, and Watson all go top 7. Yeah I am happy that we are picking 8th overall it puts us in position to address a need but still get the BPA. I think the 11-18 range in this draft  is perfect for teams looking for LB, WR, CB, which does not benefit us
