Every player that gets tagged negotiates. Did Von Miller not have Denver in his plans? Gettleman was a cheap ass as always and lowballed him and then when his ego got hurt he decided to flex his nuts and pull the tag. You really think Josh wouldve fired his agent right after it happened if he didnt wanna stay?

That's sometimes just a part of the business. It's not like it's something that hasn't been seen before. Just like we ding Rivera and Shula for situational play calling, I can ding Gettleman for rescinding that tag.

Norman may have been in our long term plans and vice versa if the two had played their hands more in line with realistic expectations, and perhaps both would be looking at a run to the Lombardi today.

In any event, Gettleman is the one mist responsible for killing the potential of this season, really before it started, and "releasing" J-No was only a part of it.

Hindsight says that Gettleman should have re-signed Norman, but at the time he was looking for top CB money after performing like one for only one year.  And who knew Bene was going to get fat?  He took a gamble and lost, it happens.

I don't particularly like Shula, but his offense works when we have good O-Line play.  Rather than searching for a new OC, I hope instead he has all his pro scouts looking for the next Andrew Norwell to provide quality tackle depth.  That would have made a huge difference in our season by itself.  Maybe improving the kicker will help too, and he probably knows it.

Concerning the Norman/Gettleman/tag situation, I have to weigh in here.

It would appear to me that either Norman, or most likely his agent, said or did something that just set G-man off.  IMO, there is no other logical reason for Gettleman to rescind the tag.  He would have had him locked up for another season at a known price with no negotiations necessary.  So since Gettleman tagged him, it meant he had every intention to pay him the price set by the league for this year.  If negotiations for a new contract weren't going anywhere and if Norman failed to sign the tag, he wouldn't play...anywhere.  So if he didn't sign the tag and couldn't play, how would that have been different for the Panthers than the situation we ended up with?  And as someone said, we could have still drafted the rookies we did anyway whether Norman was on the team or not.

So what other reason could Dave have had for suddenly pulling the tag, what was it, 2 or 3 weeks before the deadline?  I just have the feeling that J-No's agent said or did something that really pissed Dave off to the point that he no longer felt like dealing with him anymore what-so-ever.  And then when Josh found out, we was truly surprised and upset about it, which explains his instantly firing the agent, who btw, wasn't a football guy anyway IIRC.

Would the team have done better with Norman this year?  Maybe, maybe not.  There may have been a couple of extra wins.  Don't forget, Washington had a worse reacord with him than they did last year without him and did not make the playoffs this year, either.

Totally with you there
