"Cam isn't good at the short, quick throws"

There is no doubt in my mind that with a proper mentor, Newton could become that Aaron Rodgers type player. Deadly in the long game, deadly in the short game, and a threat to run.

You've got the team's ear so say something on behalf of the 20 million huddlers that worship the ground you walk on.

Fire shula!

Cam could have the best mechanics in history but there's still way too much that has to go right for this offense to function on even an average NFL level.  If Shula had Rodgers or anyone else I'm not sure he'd be doing any better.  Shula is like an off the rack suit.  Once in a while things fit properly however cam needs an offense tailored to his unique attributes.

Just my 2

Cam is fine with short passes like the 3 yarder for a first down to Olsen for a first down. He threw it with good timing. What he lacks is the ability to hit WRs when they aren't in the middle of the field on timing routes like outs, hitches and curls. Most times the receivers are open when they come.out of their break which is when Rodgers or Brees is delivering the ball.  Cam is just deciding to throw and by the time the ball gets there the defender has adjusted back to the ball. Look at all three picks and you will see the receiver was open but in 2 cases Cam threw late and on the other he threw it late and to the inside when it should have been earlier and to the outside to Olsen.

Maybe that is coaching but I highly doubt that the coaches don't watch film and show Cam what he is doing wrong.  Seems to me his failure to change might just be him. After all was he having these problems last year? If yes then he was still an MVP, if not then perhaps he know what to do but isn't unless you think he developed amnesia.

Cam's short game isn't even bad like some here would have you believe. The only throws he misses are those screen passes are sometimes high. On slants and quick throws to the middle he's usually on point.

Cam throws behind the receiver more often than I like, especially on the slants. There were a few of those misfires on Sunday where he did just that. On the flip side, he nailed throwing to Ginn running the flat on one play which gained a huge chunk of yards. There's also games where he throws a nice rainbow to the back where he leads them quite well.

One argument I have seen against changing up the offense a bit is that Cam isn't particularly good at short quick throws.

Fug that.

It might have something to do with Cam spending the entire OTA and training camp in a system that calls for him holding onto the ball for 4 seconds and throwing deep ball after deep ball.

I have said since Cam was drafted every year in camp I am amazed about how long it takes for the plays to develop and Cam to throw the ball. It was not like that under the Fox regime.

A new offensive coordinator is needed. One that can take an intelligent, physical freak like Cam Newton to the next level. Cam has hit his ceiling under the current regime, but personally he still has much more room to grow.

There is no doubt in my mind that with a proper mentor, Newton could become that Aaron Rodgers type player. Deadly in the long game, deadly in the short game, and a threat to run.

/rant

Give him a TE that can be a chain mover

Tune down the QB runs &  use more play action and boot legs

Stout OL that can imose their will on any defense

hahaha this is funny. it is funny cause you go from 15-1 to out of the picture and having trouble with short throws. Newton is 6'5" short throws are a tall qb best friend. Short throws require quick reads on the qbs part and craftiness, technique, and speed on the wide receivers end. I am willing to go out on a limb and say newton can quick read and the wideouts are speedy but they are not slots.

you have zero slots. how can you do short game without a slot?

Beyond me why your entire coaching club is even employed. What team does not implement some sort of short game, what a joke this thread is.

I think Cam's timing issues are often related to the fact that he frequently has to fake hand off after getting the snap and before dropping back. I'd really like to see him in a traditional play-action style offense where the fake hand-off can happen as he is dropping back. We'd also be able to roll him out in space where he could throw deep or see where the holes are in the defense and run. Many of the big arm QBs excel in this type of system with these type of plays.

That type of system seems like it would take advantage of his strengths and keep him away from getting hit by bigger players. I'd much rather seem Cam roll out and take on a corner than run a QB power everytime and end up in a pile of 320lb linemen.

We moved slow in second halfs of games when we went conservative, but for the most part our offense we went uptempo last season.

But what would a mouth breather like you know

He's looked pretty bad this year at times. Not debatable really. But he is also not remotely healthy. That also is not debatable.

But over time we've learned what judging a player by only one season has accomplished.

We had these same sort of discussions about his completion percentage in 2012, and 2014.

You remember what happened in the seasons that followed?

This offense ran through the entire league minus Denver last year.

I don't think Cam or anyone else on the offense just forgot how to play football. We need a change overall with our offense. Beef up the OL, put a bigger emphasis on quicker routes, get another threat at RB, a vet WR, and I think we eliminate most if not all of this tomfoolery about mechanics, or completion percentage.
