Matt Ryan and the Falcons are an exact example of what a change of offensive identity can produce

So, say what you will about the Falcons, but they were not handed anything.

Sure.

Falcons will probably be handed a loss first thing, and Matt Ryan can add that loss to his 1-4 playoff record; compared to Cam Newton's 3-2.

Oh, and who has been in the league longer?

Falcon fans also arguing Matt Ryan is better than Cam Newton all around. Cam's having an off season with his line falling like dominoes. Matt Ryan has had a healthy line all year, and didn't have to loose out on their center in Mack most of the year.

Imagine what would've happened if Matt Ryan lost Mack this season.

Won't look like much at all.

So now you want to move on to another topic, fine.

Yes, Ryan is 1-4 in the playoffs. Ryan and the Falcons went to the playoffs in his 2008 rookie year, and the Falcons lost to the Cardinals who went on to the Super Bowl. Ryan and the offense put up plenty of points in this game, but the subpar Falcon defense gave up points in the final minutes to loose the game. Hardly Ryan's fault, but for whatever reason wins and losses get placed squarely on the shoulders of the QB.

Ryan and the Falcons had a winning season the next year (2009), but Ryan got injured and missed 3 games that the Falcons would lose, and would miss the playoffs.

The following year, the Falcons went back to the playoffs, and were soundly beaten by the would be Super Bowl Champion Giants in New York/Jersey. New York had a very good D, and shut Ryan and the entire offense down. The Falcons lost in all phases of that game (24-2), but you can put it on Ryan if you'd like. Unlike Cam, Ryan did take the blame and apologized to his teammates for not playing better, even though there was plenty of blame to go around. Ryan certainly did not pout like a child.

In 2011 the Falcons went back to the playoffs with the #1 seed and lost to the would be Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers. Ryan and the offense did put up numbers, but Ryan did throw some costly interceptions, and once again the Falcon D got lit up.

In 2012, Ryan and the Falcons would beat Seattle in the divisional round and then lose to SF in the NFCCG. Ryan played well in both games, but the defense allowed both Seattle and SF to stick around, and Ryan was forced in both games to come back with time running out.

I've never said that Ryan was better than Cam, but I will say that Ryan is a better teammate, and can handle adversity way better than Cam does. Ryan lost 2 centers last year, and neither was that good to begin with, and yet he (Ryan) and the Falcons still managed to piece together an 8-8 season (handing Carolina its first loss along the way), while learning a new offense. The Falcon front office wisely went out and spent the money to get Alex Mack, and now for the first time in Ryan's career he has an OL that can get the job done.

Hey look, I'm not here to troll the boards, but I'm also not here to talk out my ass either. You don't like the Falcons, that fine and understandable, but you should realize that it is not easy for any team to make it to post season, and to win once you get there. The Falcons certainly can get bounced from the playoffs or go all the way...Either way, I'll of enjoyed the Altanta's season more than you enjoyed Carolina's.

Come guys the falcons are playing great, it's OK to admit that.  Let them have their moment in the sun.   It will be their last for a long time when our boys are back next year to rule the south.

Also, fug the falcons and their weesel faced owner.  That is all.

Go look at the schedules of both Dallas and New England (road and home), and explain to me how they had a tougher schedule than the Falcons. Then go look up strength of schedule for all 32 teams, and you'll see that Atlanta had the second toughest schedule. I'm not making this up, nor am I devaluing what Dallas or New England has done this year. The Falcons scored big point totals on nearly every team they faced, except for Philly. The Falcons averaged over 30 points a game, because they scored a lot of points in all but two games on a 16 game schedule. You can say that Atlanta had the easiest road to the playoffs, but you are wrong in saying it. Look at Dallas's schedule and you'll see that the toughest competition they faced was the Giants and they lost both times. The Cowboys played and won against a beat up steelers team, and they also beat Green Bay earlier in the season when they were struggling, and yes, those are still very good wins. The Patriots (who absolutely had the easiest road to the playoffs, even without Brady) on the other hand, play in a terrible division, and pad their win totals annually against teams like the Jets, Bills and Dolphins. Then, they got even more wins against bottom feeders like the Browns (Dallas played the Browns too), Bengals, Rams, 49ers, and like Dallas they faced the Steelers when they were anything but full strength. So, say what you will about the Falcons, but they were not handed anything.

Dude the playoffs will speak for themselves. I'm sure you will be nowhere around here when that playoff loss happens.

The Falcons are taking advantage of a weak year. If you want to watch a actual legitimate team look at the Giants or the Cowboys even though that pains me to say. The Falcons are the Arizona Cardinals of last year. Good offense and decent pass rush with a QB that's know to choke.

I don't know, they kicked our ass pretty good in the last 3 games we played them.  I wouldn't discount them, as much as it pains me to say it.

I think I need to throw up now.

Oh, I'll be around. I lurk and post on all of the NFC South sites. I'll either be happy with my team's success, or I'll be disappointed for a short time, but I'll still see it all for what it is, and what it is is entertainment.

Dude the Panthers this year were a train wreck. You have faced maybe one of the easiest schedules of any playoff team and have inflated your offense by running up the score on bad teams. Also trying to delegitimize Dallas and NE is laughable.

Lol wow, do you even watch football outside of carolina? This couldn't be more wrong

Knew this thread would just turn into people down playing the Falcons and their success. Some of you guys are ridiculous. They had an incredible season, beat some good teams, and have a great chance to play for a Super Bowl birth.

Stop being ignorant and pathetic, they're very good. I'm trying to talk about how a new offensive coordinator saved Matt Ryan, and he's the MVP because of it. A similar OC could have a similar effect on Cam

It's always tough to make a point that hinges upon even mild praise of a rival team.

You saw it all the time on the Falcons boards over the past few years; one poster would say "we should XYZ like the Saints" and 5 jump down his throat with a "fug mole face," a Vicodin joke, or a wholesale bashing/discounting of their entire franchise & history.

Rodgers scored more points, completed more passes and did more for his offense with rushing stats and passing stats...

He also attempted more passes (Ryan would be ahead in completions if he threw that many times, hence the % stat) and give me a break, 2 extra td passes.

Leave it to a Panther fan to include rushing stats. Ryan was a better passer than Rodgers, that's a fact.

Really... Last year was a fluke and this year we were ravaged with injuries. I might add we destroyed them the first meeting.
