But when you're the HC and your word is final, you flex your muscle.

...and that, in a nutshell is this team this year

when Gerald McCoy was asked the difference in this team and the one last year, paraphrasing.  ' panthers are  soft, hit them once and they are done' and I think that reflects Ron as well, standing with arms crossed on the sidelines   Feels like he has checked out.

Too, i totally feel like Ron does not get  1.  He does not have the offensive personnel to run this offense and 2. That he does not have an OC to devise anything else,. Hey we have injuries, hey we were 15 and 1 last year.

he can talk about missed opportunities all he wishes  buck stops with him and Gettlemen  they served up this 2016 menu

in the NFL, if a team isn't getting better, it's getting worse...old players, can't get anything for them, bloated contracts Etc.  Patriots cut or trade guys to at least get something out of them in the draft

not the panthers though, because you know, talented enough to let a corner walk for nothing

i used to be able to say 'well at least we aren't team X'

just once I'd like for this team to be a sustained winner and if Rivera can't do it with Newton, Luke, Olsen, Kalil and Davis, who can he do it with?

He's getting that while staying in, playing and trying to make things happen. Cam should've sat anyway in this game. I hate the treatment too but I chalk it to him being an either or person. You like him or you don't. 6 years in the league and people fail to realize there's no gray area with him and you can't box him in. Like I said, I don't think he should've played at all and if at any point Rivera wanted him out, he had the authority to do it.

I think Cam is stuck between a rock and a hard place.  No one has his back, the media have made him into a heel, the organization is maddeningly silent and the gen public is completely misinformed by twisted narratives and shoddy reporting.

wether he played today or not is inconsequential, either way he gets lambasted with a performance less than legendary.  Even then it would be downcast as beating a poor team in TB and voices would shout "where was this?"

Its comical and sad.

Good points and I have felt it too

it feels like something is broken with Newton and Rivera

i have never, ever seen a coach be so stoic as his QB gets his brains bashed in

Luke was cleared too, but Rivera felt the need to bench him though. Cam should've been benched with Luke.

Rivera is an idiot for playing his injured franchise QB in a meaningless game.

Now to be fair. Players want to win too. Putting in Webb could be seen as counter-productive. Taking Cam out could signal you have quit. Players could see it that way. You don't want to plant that image into your players heads. I mean, even in a "Meaningless game" Cam still wanted to go back in. He wanted to be in the battle with his mates. Taking him out could negate all that camaraderie.

Trying to prolong Luke's career by sitting him a few games, is much different from Cam, the face of your Franchise, playing dinged up. You are trying to protect Luke for the long run. Cam is in no more danger than usual, if you let him play.

I know folks are frustrated. And thinking rationally is not high on the to do list. But there really is a big difference between trying to protect Luke long term, and allowing Cam to play while being dinged up. Someone has to make these tough calls. I am kinda glad it is us the fans. Us fans can be a touch emotional about these things.

What about Rivera's masterful time management in the last possession?  You call a time out and then the team cannot run a play without almost getting a delay of game penalty + a busted play + another wasted timeout.  Are you kidding me???

Cam shouldn't have been playing at all. He's injured too. That's my point.

With Anderson out, an injured Cam is still our best chance to win. Everyone wants to win. So I can see it.

But.....we did play a bunch of kids, which kind of flies in the face of that whole, playing to win thingy. So there is that.

I do believe that if Derek were healthy, he very well could have seen playing time today. I just don't think Ron wanted to put Webb in at all. Team mates see Cam fighting to play, and it lifts them. Hard to argue against that. Not impossible, cuz I am sure there are plenty of folks who believe I am full of it.

So in conclusion. I don't know. And I am just learning this speculation thing. So I guess what I am saying is. Thanks for listening.

I agree completely. Do you think some of that has mentally affected him? I love to say, or think, that Cam is cool and he can block it out. I know he has great people around him but he's human and I'm realizing that no matter how much he tries to shut it out, it has probably gotten to him a lot this year. The media, the public, all of it. Its one thing for your family to have your back but when your employer has your back, it's easy to shrug and keep going.

Why would I be pissed if Rivera would've benched Cam? He's injured and should've been benched with Luke.

You suck EVERYDAY.

Bye.

If Rivera had benched Cam and then you heard Cam wanted to play, you'd have been up in arms. Instead, he tries to bench him and Cam says no, so you're mad at Rivera for not benching him. There's no winning on that one.

Cam is injured too. He had a concussion this year and his shoulder is hurt.

I think he hurt his ankle in the damn Minnesota game. And plus he got slammed on his shoulder today it look like he was really hurt today. Yes Cam needs to work on his mechanics but you can't do that on your back and you definitely can't do that with hurt ass shoulder a scrambled brain and a questionable ankle.

He will probably go quietly and have some arthroscopic now surgery done I'm sure. He doesn't even look the same running. Hope he is able to mend up and regroup. And knowing Cam, he won't dare blame any of his struggles on any of his injuries. He probably doesn't think he's injured lol.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
