Dalvin Cook or Jamal Adams in the 1st?

Adams is definitely the pick of the two for me, but I think he's got Berry-esque potential, and will go before our pick.  Then again, I did want Mark Barron coming out, and look how that panned out.

That being said, Adams looks like the real deal and best safety prospect to come out in quite awhile.  Based on where we're picking at taking BPA vs. Need into account:

Adams > Barnett > Fournette = Cook > Robinson = Ross

Our biggest need (OT) doesn't present value, unless we're picking in the 11-15 range, and then Robinson meets value/BPA.  I think Adams, Barnett and Fournette or Cook give us the best value and will improve our team as a whole best.

- Robinson is a potential franchise LT with quite a few question marks in a weak OT class

- Ross is a dynamic WR with Cooks/OBJ/Brown potential, but could be a luxury pick considering other needs.  However, at the same time, he is EXACTLY what this team needs between KB and Funch, not to mention how amazing our ST would be early on.  I wouldn't be mad at Gettleman if he made this pick. For all of the "Cam needs more weapons." & "Not sold on KB & Funchess as WR1s" opinions, Ross would give Cam exactly what he needs. A deep threat that can stretch defenses, open up the underneath routes for our big guns (KB, Olsen, Funchess) and allows Ginn to be shown the door this offseason. As crazy as it sounds, if all of the previous mentioned players are off the board, don't sleep on John Ross as an early teens pick for us. We've got the tall, possession, mismatch WRs, now we get the sure-handed speedster that is burning 4.3 40's AFTER a knee injury.

I'm 95% sure this will be our pick if he is still there

I doubt he's still there, and there'd probably be better players available, but I would not be upset by this move. At least we'd have a top-notch LT on our team. That would allow Williams/Oher/FA to compete for RT, and Remmers to be a backup.

It would be hard to pass on an elite SS, though.

Impact players? His last two 1st round players haven't even had a chance to be starters due to the players ahead of them at their position and barely get 20 snaps a game. That's like the exact opposite of an impact player.

This is true. I like the BPA philosophy, but only if it upgrades our roster. Now I loves me some Shaq, and I expect Butler to be a beast, but, IMO, a first round pick should start, or at least be expected to challenge the current starter. Both Shaq and Butler were drafted to be back ups.

Honest question - who was picked in round 2 or later that will have more of an impact in the NFL in 2018 than Butler?  I liked Ogbah myself, but having a disruptive DT under a 5-year rookie deal has its advantages.  Especially if Short has played himself out of our price range.

I'm still a Hunter Henry guy. He is a very rare talent at TE, and would have helped this season. If we'd have known that Oher was going to miss 75% of the season, Ogbah definitely looks pretty darned good, but who knew?

That being said, I agree with what you said about Butler being great for us long term.

1st - Jamal Adams

2nd - Demarcus Walker

3rd - James Conner

3rd - Taylor Motan (spelling...WMU OT/OG)

4th - Mason Cole - Michigan OG/C

Conner is a beast. He is going to drop in draft because of his history with cancer. He is a solid NFL RB prospect and to get him in the third or fourth would be great. I am a UNC fan and watch a lot of ACC FB.
