KB the TE?

This board confuses me. The Panthers have, in terms of pure production if not talent, the best TE in the NFL. They also have an underpowered WR corps. Yet in the past week, I have seen massive discussions revolving around moving both  the #1 or #2 WR to TE.

Perhaps Kuechly should be fattened up and turned into a DT next year as well.

Read his bio. Funchess barely played football. He was way more focused on basketball.

Also, take a look at his freshman and sophomore seasons at Michigan. Funchess was utilized as a WR, not a TE. The coaches did not ask him to do typical TE duties. He blocked only 11% of the time...

Lulz, yep... Funchess is a TE.

He played football though, as you said he didn't. He was a recruited as TE going to Michigan and was the big 10 TE of the year ending in 2013. He didn't start playing WR solely at Michigan until his junior season. He's a hybrid and can do both

I would like us to bring in a vet TE and keep the twin towers on the outside. They already should provide mismatches based on size alone. Problem is how often are KB and Funchess on the field at the same time.

2016 season showed that size doesn't really  give you advantage, having the twin towers and Olsen on the filed at the same time hinder the offense since they are too smiliar and limits the way offense can attack the opposing defense.

We already have an Vet TE in Olsen, we need a young TE to groom under Greg that also brings energy.

Actually our redzone inepness proved that without a redzone running threat,  Cam got blitzed and couldn't get them the ball. I don't know how many times KB would be lined up on a 5'10" corner and Cam would force it to Olsen in triple coverage rather than lob it up for KB like any other team would. No the twin towers are a good idea you just need to get the ball to them.

The real twin towers are  KB & Olsen. I have seen more scenarios  where KB & Funchess have not come up with the plays in the endzone & 3rd down . Team sport is about having comlimentary players & Panther's offense is run first that is most effective when WR can stretch field and take 8th man out of the box and allow KB & Olsen to work the middle of the field.

#2 WR should be in the mold of  Steve Smith/Tyler Lockett.

Another twin tower combo could be a 2nd TE to pair with Olsen where defense can't key on whether its a run or pass play.

Its all about the run game.

I think you are underselling Funchess. Sure he seems to disappear at times but why do folks here not realize he has 4.4 speed. He isn't Ginn fast but who is.

As for the redzone, speed isn't as important as size. It wasn't Smitty's doped but his leaping ability that made him a redzone threat. Guys like KB should even have to.leap but he can. Olsen not so much.
