FA Target: Riley Reiff OT

Detroit moved him to RT in a contract year after spending a 1st round pick on rookie Taylor Decker.

What's his market value? Because Gettleman isn't gonna break the bank or anything.

For a decent price.  Why spend big $$ on a guy who couldn't cut it and got drafted over and moved down to RT for the Lions

Maybe 7-8 mil a year

He's been a decent OT. Not great but above average.

There's a reason Detroit had a major need to draft a LT last year

 

he's much better than Remmers.  But not worth big money which some gms will throw at him because he will be the top OT free agent in a super weak class

Not really. They needed a RT to replace Cornelius Lucas. Decker was the best OT left on the board. Decker is better suited on the left side than right.

Bc Decker is better suited for LT. Detroit didn't draft Decker to replace Reiff; replace Lucas. Moving Reiff to RT was more a luxury move.

Detroit had a lot of holes.  If all they needed was a guy to plug in at RT they wouldn't have drafted Decker.  Which if you go back and look, most felt Detroit reached to grab.  Maybe t had him going at the end of the first and even a option for us at j the 1st. Especially when there were higher rated guys at other position of needs.  Detroit reached to grab a OT because they felt they had a pretty big need at LT

I say we sign Remmers to huge multi year deal.

Nobody moves their starting left tackle to right tackle because they need a replacement right tackle.

They move him because they don't think he's good enough on the left.

I'd look at Reiff as a right tackle only.

Going off what the DET beat writers have said about him, while he was on the left he was a liability in pass protection.  He was reported to be serviceable on the right side this year but Walford was playing beside him and I am sure that helped him as well.  So if he is cheap enough it might make some sense as  a depth move on the right, but he will probably not be a solution on the left for us.

I do think that he's a better RT than LT. 

When you have Reiff and Decker, you play Decker at LT. Same as if Oher comes back, you play Oher at LT. You play Jason Peters at LT and Lane at RT. On and on.....

 

im just saying, Reiff is a good option and huge upgrade over Remmers. Possibly even Oher at this point of his career. I like Andrew Whitworth. I'm not into the idea of trading a 1st or 2nd for Thomas or Staley. If you want to get a better tackle the sign Whitworth. If you want to go younger and long term, then Reiff. Cam Robinson, I like but plenty of red flags.
