Any Interest If Okung Leaves Denver

All in all, I think LT is our only weakness. RT is shored up with Daryl William's play (he shut down the league's sack leader, Vic Beasley, twice this year to 0 sacks), our future at center looks good in Tyler Larsen's hands, and Remmers is viable as a RT backup.

If Oher is done for, then LT needs to be addressed; otherwise a decent depth LT is fine. I think we have a top 5 O-line when healthy, and it's amazing considering our situation in 2014.

I maybe mistaken, but I saw okung at OG a couple games. I do remember he had a rather big injury file too.

Plus I know most here don't care, but for the last few weeks the panthers have been carrying 3 OTs on the practice squad. Which is a high number for any position. Seems like a plan has already started, the draft is awful for LT this year too.

That was Trai Turner at RT this last game against the Falcons.

Tyler Larsen is not a center and his poor play at center with his bad snaps prove it.

Remmers is not a viable back up at the price he will demand.

The Panthers OL is strong when healthy on the inside but their OTs and depth make the OL bottom 10.

You would say the same if the Panthers had the Browns roster.

Right tackle  Daryl Williamsicon-article-link.gif , who has missed the last three games with an ankle injury, are ready to return to action. Both are expected to start.

Panthers inactives:

  • LB Luke Kuechly

These are our only inactives. Daryl Williams played, and I can go ahead and grab a quick gif to prove it.

EDIT: I'll do you a better. Here's the snap counts per Voth:

Then who?  I can't think of a harder positon to upgrade through the draft or FA.  There aren't 32 quality starting left tackles in the league.  I'm not sure if there is one in FA that is a sure thing even if you were willing to overspend.  People talk about Kalil but is his production really that much better then what we all ready have?  Only thing is at one time he was a top-5 pick so people are hoping.

Of course, beggars can't be choosers, but obviously at a discounted rate.  He simply can't be trusted to play 16 games.  Remmers would inevitably still get work at LT, but Okung can be above average 70% of the time for another couple seasons I believe.

Trade for Staley/Thomas/Veldheer>Whitworth=Okung>Remmers=Matt Kalil>unknown, unproven rookie in a weak OT class.

A lot of people talk about trades but what would people really be willing to give up.  Would people on there be ok with trading a 1st for Staley?  Not only does the other team have to be willing to trade the player you have to out bid other times most likely.

I'd be so ticked off if we take a tackle in the first and expect him to start and make a day 1 impact.

So many other positions we could go ahead of tackle from the draft imo.

you mean do what carolina has done every year. ignore the position.  there is nothing as far as OT outside of round 1.  its paper thin.  teams will be over paying their free agent olines to retain them because theres nothing available.

I see both sides here.  I'm not convinced there is a tackle in the draft who should go top 10 and be ready to start from day one.  The are some other positions that would no doubt provide a quicker impact.

At what point though do you invest a draft pick on a LT?  More times then not you do have to reach for a LT.  How often are they really BPA?  They are overvalued by everyone in the league.  Cam Robinson might have a "grade" that says he should go 15-20 but some team will probably reach and draft him 10-15.

Personally I wish our offense wasn't so dependent on one but that is thought for another time.

Our top 10 pick straight up?  No way!!!

Our 1st (8 or 9 overall), 2018 1st, and 3rd for Staley and #2 overall (Garrett).

Our 3rd straight up for Staley.

Our high 2nd and 6th for Staley and their high 4th.

KB and our comp 3rd for Tartt and Staley.

There are many others.  It can happen without being desperate.

our top 10?  I wouldn't either

Their #2 overall is pretty much worth our 1st this year, our first next year, and the third without Staley

I doubt a 3rd straight up would do it.  Too many desperate teams for tackles.  Somebody would offer at least a 2nd.

.I don't think a 2nd and 6th would do it for just Staley, let alone adding their 4th in.

They might view Tartt as equal to KB.  Young player on good contract.  Back to 3rd for Staley.

Hopefully I'm wrong.  I would love to add him but i'm just thinking the asking price might be more then we wajnt to offer.

Would you trade our 2nd and 4th for him?

No I wouldn't.  Sure, we'll likely desperately need a LT assuming Oher is nevermore but they're desperate for long term assets.  They're fools if they consider his value higher than a top 75 pick in this draft given his age and salary.  Our leverage over other needy teams are higher picks in each round so of another team gives a 2nd they can knock themselves out.

Veldheer may be the most attainable of all given that DJ Humphries SUCKS!!!!!!!! at RT.  But since he was their 1st rounder and was "better" at LT they'll have to keep him there.  They could use the salary dump as well.

Having said that, given that Cam's health is on the line, I'd eventually cave a little, maybe swapping day 3 picks if necessary.
