Steelers' handling of Ben a map for Panthers & Cam

Oh, I agree about Olsen. The thing is though, we absolutely need to start grooming his replacement. I think that it's even harder to find  a TE of his caliber than it is to find a sure-handed, "route-ologist" with good speed at WR.

AB is one of a kind. The Steelers hit the jackpot! We hit it once when we chose 89. I am not going to put that type of expectation on Gettleman (though maybe I should considering his tooting his own horn about his expertise as a scout), but, like you said, Gettleman has to have the vision.

BTW, Green has excellent speed, size and hands.

Finding a replacement for Olsen will be hard. He's literally one of a kind.

AB, yeah he's one of a kind, but there have been others. Not saying it's easy to find but they are out there. You can spot them each draft. OBJ went in the first round and for sure if he would have dropped to us we would have nabbed him. DG knew he would blow up. DG knows. I'm sure he'll find one. The potential is there in each round. Steelers were lucky to get AB in that round as well.

I don't think Green has been healthy like Olsen tho. He's also no produced like Olsen. Albeit the Steelers have AB, Coates, DHB, Bell as receivers. So he's not getting that much attention. Also he's not even their #1 TE in the depth chart. I wouldn't even mention him in the conversation next to Olsen.

If he has a break out season next year sure. He can maybe join that conversation. Right now his career has been pedestrian.

Better than ours on a good day. I would be happy if we could say our line was average.

That's not exactly true. Our lines have been really on par with one another, at least since Cam has been in the league, except for this year when they are better (and last year when we were better). If you look back even further, you might be surprised how well our line compared against the entire league after Ben came in.

No, Green hasn't had the career that Olsen has had, but Olsen's career didn't really begin to take off until six years in. You must remember that Green was injured when the Steelers signed him, and this is his 5th year in. If you notice, this season his production started to pick up after he came off a serious injury and was slowly integrated into the offense. Plus, you should note that he was playing behind a likely future HOFER in San Diego. But of course he isn't on Olsen's level yet---anywhere near it---but that doesn't mean that (barring injury) he won't ever be.

The fact is, he would have been an excellent addition to our squad, not only as the heir apparent to Olsen when he retires, but as a second legit TE to complement Olsen and the rest of the offense like we've pretty much needed to do for years.

Dude, Olsen is one of the fastest tight ends in the NFL. The only person who is faster is probably Jordan Reed

Dude, fast is relative.

"Fast" and "tight ends" are not normally used in the same sentence. And we are talking about how quickly a play develops and nothing involving a deep TE route is developing quickly.

Context, man, context.
