Sorry man, but other than handling things poorly Gettleman's cutting of Steve most likely helped the team. Cam was locked onto him like he locked onto KB and it's probably no coincidence that his best year was without a 'lock on' target. Smith had to go.

Have to disagree...can't blame SS for poor development by coaches...which is coming to light .His presence would have definitely impacted the perception  of not caring that KB has...as well as holding QB accountable ...winning with Smitty would be a Careers worth of education on how to play the game...we definitely would have benefited greater if he stayed...

Its crazy that Steve and DWill both basically said that they got comfortable here and being cut was a wake up call for lack of a better term. But people still think they would've had the same production here, which just isnt the case. Dwill lost 15 pounds to have a bounce back season, why didn't he lose that weight in carolina....because he didnt have anything to prove.

Where'd you hear this from? I think you are misconstruing things, as for comfortable, the myth needs to die, prior to being cut smith had a good year and we went 12-4,d will got injured in his final year and didn't play much but prior to injury had a good season and was playing well before the ankle injury.

Always played like 6'6" and was the NFL's most dangerous in the open field. Greatest Panther everrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Fwiw, the trio of Smith, KB and Ginn at WR and Olsen at TE would kill in the current offense, even with a very pedestrian O-line. 

Every team in the league is still rolling a safety over the top to help cover Smith and someone is getting left open... wide open.

He is one of a kind and still bringing his A game every single week. I love watching the man play ball. Amazing player and career. The Panthers would have been a much better team with Smitty on the roster.

lol this thread and the ongoing debate of 'why'. Smitty was the best receiver in the league for a good 5 years. Made Delhomme look good. You could split SSs heart and give half to Funch and KB, and they would be 100% better. 

It would be a shame if he doesn't retire here, home, a Panther.
