(Peppers, Gross, Williams, Stewart, Gamble, Jeff Otah)

DE who quit on the team numerous years

Pro Bowl LT

2 running backs that split time for 100 million dollars. One got fat and quit trying, the other is injured half the season every year

Corner who retired in his 20's

O Lineman who played a season and a half? Maybe

How do we not have like 10 Lombardi's by now?

Peppers was a multiple Pro Bowl selection and at one time may have been the most feared pass rusher in the league. Dude is pushing 40 and can still get after the QB. While he was here in his prime years he was a strong contributor.  I can't speak for him "quitting on the team". Maybe he just wanted to be somewhere else.

As you stated Gross was a Pro Bowl tackle, something which we don't have and could surely use right now...at either spot.

Hurney wasn't paying them Williams and Stewart 100 million dollars when he drafted them. They had their best years BEFORE he overpaid them. No one was complaining about them as a tandem during the first 2 or 3 years together.

Gamble retired early but you left out the fact that he was released by the team after the 2012 season. He only played in 4 games that season. He was a solid player the previous 8 seasons.. Check out the link below.

Panther J and I have already pointed out that Utah had a short career because of injuries. It's not like he turned into Rae Carruth and ended up in prison. He got hurt. Most people on this board don't hold that against him. He would have been a good player if he could have stayed healthy.

I personally think Hurney made a lot of bad decisions: Overpaying players (FA's and players he drafted), trading away future 1st round draft choices to move up in later rounds, poor picks in the 2nd half of the drafts, etc). Still that doesn't negate the fact that most of his 1st round choices started immediately or made significant contributions to the Panthers within 1 or 2 years after they were drafted. We can't say the same for G-Man. Hopefully we'll be able to in the future.

If Gettleman doesn't sit on his hands in FA and gets veterans to help on the Oline at DE and secondary he can go BPA instead of "need" like he did because he f'd up the JNo negotiations.

You can't expect rookies to play as well as starters and you can't win against veterans with rookies. Sometimes you get lucky and you get a Julius Peppers or perhaps a MylesGarrett.

I hear all the trade down scenarios but I'd like to see a strong free agency and perhaps a trade UP for Fournette or if Garrett is their target, let's make a deal. We've got some good tradable pieces at WR and perhaps a top ten draft pick.

Let's be aggressive for once. I need Gettleman to give us 110% this offseason.

I thought our run game was devastating before Utah got hurt. I believe Williams and Stewart as a tandem combined for over 2,000 rushing yds in back to back seasons. I agree with you on Utah. Don't know if he'd made it all the way to Canton, but if he'd stay healthy he'd probably be a multiple Pro Bowl selection AT WORST.

Would you be ok with giving up the 2018 1st?  Not saying that's good or bad, but that's what it'd take to get Garrett.

I think our spot to trade up this year will be back into the 1st round. Knowing we're getting an extra 3rd rounder for JNo, we'll use our 2nd, 3rd, and more if necessary to jump back into the end of the first and grab a guy we want. Make sure we get our guy, pick up the all-important 5th year option 1st rounders get, profit.

Take the best OT, DE, RB, S Top 10...then grab our next favorite in the late 20s, take a break and hopefully still have the JNo comp pick to select with at the ass end of the 3rd.

May not be popular with our myriad of needs, but Gettleman is a trade up kinda guy. Watching a Hunter Henry go before our 2nd round pick again, won't happen.

Hopefully teams will reach for QBs at the top of the 1st, not only so our target in the top 10 can fall, but so it's more affordable to trade up as described.

Funny thing is I'm glad we passed on Henry last year. I'd rather have Butler and get Leggett in the 3rd. The TEs are really deep this year, unlike last year. Much better time to be picking a TE this year and I don't believe Henry would have done much of anything for us this year. He scored, but he had 32-435 with a TE1 in Gates who doesn't have 500 yards. He wouldn't have done nearly as well with a 1000 yard TE in front of him. There are potentially 6 TEs who I think can be as good as Henry (Howard, Njoku, Engram, Leggett, Butt and Hodges).

I know it isn't popular to like our GM, whether Hurney or Gettleman, but I think the GM has to be forward looking. We were 17-2 and I do believe the entire team, coaches (especially Shula who made 0 adjustments from 2015), players and GM thought we were more than good enough and unfortunately that wasn't the case. I would be pissed if Gettleman went Henry and didn't already know that the 2017 TE class was deeper and would be better values. Same with RB, as much as people liked Henry (in preseason, especially), there are a few guys drafted later who will likely be as good or better.

Now that we know this team isn't as good as we thought, it's time to make some changes. I just hope we stay at 9 or improve to 8. I don't want to feel like we won a meaningless game (Tampa is pretty much out) against a team not playing hard and screwed ourselves out of a great player and a better pick every round. Makes trading up easier or not even necessary.

DA should play, AGAIN, vs the Bucs this week.  We can win and very possibly still pick 9, but even the slight risk of slipping to the teens as opposed to being assured of 9 and maybe with some good fortune moving to 7 is enough to give me the heeby jeebies.

It's worth noting that, while we could drop to as far as 14th, the teams currently positioned at 11-14 have much easier opponents than us next week. While we'll be playing a Bucs team that could still secure a Wild Card (assuming the Cowboys win tonight), those teams will all be playing against teams with bottom 6 records. And at 10, Philly plays against a Dallas team that may have nothing to play for.

On the other side, the Chargers probably aren't beating a Chiefs team that's fighting for a bye, but I could see the Bengals winning their divisional game against the just-eliminated Ravens. So while anywhere from 7-14 is possible, the most likely range seems to be 8-10, maybe 11 if there's a minor upset with a bottom-six team beating a late lottery team.

It has been quite a fall for the Panthers, who became the first team to follow a Super Bowl appearance with a losing record since the 2007 Bears (7-9). They'll try to avoid double-digit losses in Week 17 at the Buccaneers, who at the moment retain a slim chance of making the playoffs as an NFC wild card. FPI gives the Panthers a 55.4 percent chance to lose and a 78.6 percent chance to pick in the top 10 next spring.
