Panther draft position

Need to finish the season with a W.

Draft position, meh.

What the OP has laid out is having the best of both worlds.  There is a nightmare scenario which has us at 14 but we can win and MOST LIKELY still be in the top 10.

Yay that meaningless win(s) just cost us 2 draft spots...and people bitching about the OL like there will be one at 9 or 14...so who cares what they think.

If we had a top 5 we could likely get an OT or DE worth a poo....at 9 we're going WR, RB, maybe S come back here after the draft and tell me it didn't happen.

Edit: I could see us trading back if we wanted to pick up another pick and get the 2nd wave of players after 10 but top 10 should get you a superstar and has done that for us in the past....just be ready for that player to be at a position that isn't of the most need but whatever if we get the Luke equivalent of WR, RB, S w/e then it would be great.

Look at the draft boards. The draft class for tackles i pathetic. Cam Robinson is probably the top OT taken, and any team that takes him before pick 20 is making a piss poor decision. The only other OT that might pissibly go in the first is Ramczyk. Neither one is athletic enough to be great at LT. I'd love Ramczyk at our pick in the second, but hes not likely to fall that far.

At 8 or 14 or somewhere in between, OT will not be the pick, possibly Barnett as a DE, RB or S.  Value in the first round does not fit well with our needs.  Our needs for the coming season and next 4 years are numerous.

Immediate needs:  OT, DE, S, RB

Depth needs:  C, LB, CB, TE, WR, OT

Bigger more ominous worries have to do with Keek and Cam, their health and early retirement

Things is, even if we get a top 10 pick I'd be a little skeptical with the current front office. If we are fortunate to pick that high we need to grab someone who can make an immediate impact. I don't want to see us pick another "BPA" and fail to use him on half of the defensive/ offensive snaps next season. I'd rather see us trade down and grab 2 starters than to pick a LB, DT, G who won't contribute much in the upcoming season.

I know it sounds crazy, but I'd feel more comfortable with Matt Hurney making our "FIRST PICK" in the 2017 draft and letting G-Man handle the rest of it. Say what you will about the guy, but he did pretty well with his 1st round choices (Peppers, Gross, Williams, Stewart, Gamble). His worst pick (in hindsight) may have been Jeff Utah, but even he was playing at a high level before injuries derailed a promising career. To this day I don't think our running game has ever been as good as it was when he was healthy during his first two seasons

Would you trade our first for berry or a starting DE or LT?

You know, if someone told you that Berry was a guarantee to play at an All-Pro level the next 4-5 years I think it would be worth it. Unfortunately, Berry has the cancer history and he plays a very physical position which could lead to a relatively short career.

I might now have the guts to pull that trigger if I were GM, but I wouldn't fault anyone who would because Berry is a difference maker on the field.

Doesn't sound crazy to me. Hurney was money. Jeff Otah was maybe the best run blocking tackle I've ever seen in my life. I think he would have made the HOF in not for injuries. Gettleman worries me every draft. I'm left scratching my head, and then I see the pick out on the field and they look like ass. Really worried.

I thought our run game was devastating before Utah got hurt. I believe Williams and Stewart as a tandem combined for over 2,000 rushing yds in back to back seasons. I agree with you on Utah. Don't know if he'd made it all the way to Canton, but if he'd stay healthy he'd probably be a multiple Pro Bowl selection AT WORST.

Hurney is "money" & Jeff Otah as a "future HoF"

(Peppers, Gross, Williams, Stewart, Gamble, Jeff Otah)

DE who quit on the team numerous years

Pro Bowl LT

2 running backs that split time for 100 million dollars. One got fat and quit trying, the other is injured half the season every year

Corner who retired in his 20's

O Lineman who played a season and a half? Maybe

How do we not have like 10 Lombardi's by now?
