This needs to be the game that forces Rivera/DG's hand

I disagree.  MLB is insanely critical, but they are only successful if they have pieces around them that are worth a damn.  MLB is like a QB, they make all the checks and read the offense, but if the QB has a trash O-line, RB, and receivers, even Tom Brady will look bad.  That said, Short, Star, TD, and Coleman are enough pieces to keep us successful with a middle of road D-Coord.  Side note, remember, when our offense hasn't sustained drives, even when we have all of our defensive pieces together, they can go through stretches where they look awful.  The reason our defense looks good is because our offense is designed to limit the opponents possessions.  We truly are a team built where either phase of the game fails (I'm not talking about Special teams, we always suck at special teams), then both look god awful.  Today was a perfect example of that.

You are correct in some areas...BUT It begs the question, why do you have this philosophy when u have a QB like cam newton in the first place?? This the type of strategy for alex Smith led team or a game manager at qb. It just further explains why Rivera isn't the right coach for this team.

Offense needs a complete coaching staff overhaul. Dorsey and Shula are the worst coaches in the league by far. Cam needs coaching just like every other player in the league and Dorsey is unbelievably bad to let what has gone on with Cam this year continue. Truly terrible. Shula goes without saying.

An offensive head coach is not the solution either. HC has too much on his plate to be the one to fix Cam and the O, so it needs to be OC and QB coach. Dorsey was a scout and had no coaching experience and Shula had only had a job because of his father.

If Rivera can't see this then that should be the nail in his coffin...

I have said this for two years and unfortunately

1. They went to the super bowl last year

2. It's don Shula's kid

3  the injury excuse will be used

4. Rivera sucks on offense and is too loyal to pull the trigger on anyone

5 neither Shula or Dorsey should be coaching Newton

Newton needs a coach that teaches, corrects, and gets on his ass when he needs and oh yeah,  a head coach that doesn't stand with his arms folded as Newton gets his head beat in

6. Rivera doesn't seem to get that Atlanta has made book on the Panthers so hey Ron, keep doing what you have always done and you will get what you have always got

I don't disagree with that, but I think Rivera is a solid coach, but he's a defensive minded guy.  He needs an Offensive Minded OC that he can step back and let take care of EVERYTHING on that side of the ball.  This is exactly why I want Norv Turner in the offeseason like a pregnant woman wants cake (I say this as a man with a pregnant wife).

I think there will be more pressure on them than ever before to make some move and I think Shula could be the fall guy.  I'd say that it's about 50/50 chance they fire shula...maybe even a little higher.  Injuries or not, you don't go from the #1 offense to whatever the hell we are this year without someone getting hammered.

Keep on saying it

One day you might be right. Even a broken clock is right 2 times in a 24 hour period.

I love glossing over the fact that you were complaining when we were 15-1 and had the best offense in the league. Admitting that just suggests your opinion won't change no matter what happens which negates the whole reason to consider your opinion to begin with. Regardless of the facts you hold on to the same opinion.

Also, are we sure Proehl is the right guy for us as WR coach? I'm not saying he needs to be fired this year, but he should evaluated and have a bit of fire under his seat as well. I've not seen much improvement from our WRs.

I just think speed kills and overall talent is real. Look at what Steve Smith is doing at his age after a damn torn achilles. Let's call a spade a spade, gettleman decisions on the offensive side has been sub-par.

Jeremy has overrated him here because of how hands on he is, which is a fine characteristic but I agree that it doesn't seem like Proehl has done much with KB and Funch and even Philly but I think the bigger issue there is OC and Proehl deserves a shot with an OC that can give the WRs a chance.

People here keep whining about our talent on offense as if we have none and it's all DG's fault, but that's ridiculous. Turner, Norwell and Kalil form a top 3 interior line and Oher when healthy and Remmers/Williams is at least average. And KB and Funch both have tremendous upside and talent. DG put those two there and it's up to the coaching staff to bring it out of them. I think Shula is hindering them more than Proehl but it very well could be that we need a new WR coach as well.

And Shula and this team's offensive philosophy is killing Stew and our run game. That's the biggest problem in my opinion. The run game revolves entirely around Cam and the read option which is the laziest, most pitiful thing I've ever seen in the NFL. It seems like all Stew's yards come after contact and that's not because of the line. It's because of horrible play design that's veen figured out. Stew could be a 1500 yard season RB in a good run scheme, and it would do wonders for our offense, opening up the entire offense for Cam and the passing attack as well.

The pieces are there, we just don't have anybody competent in place to put them together. I don't know who the answer is but I do know we need an entire offensive overhaul.
