This offseason: Groupon Gettleman, or does he go all in for big splash FAs?

I do believe he believes in filling holes cheaply in FA (and I am not saying I disagree with that)

But I get tired of the "BPA" matra.  Dave doesn't draft BPA.  BPA is a myth/coach speak.  Dave drafts Dave guys and uses his pick to draft the best "Dave guy" he can get.

I also don't think we know if Dave really believe in a traditional "core" group of guys like a Hurney did.   Luke and Cam you just have to pay.  They don't really tell much about Dave's views.   When he first arrived here, he set things up for an early Gross exit and most recently said goodbye to Norman.....most would have penciled them a core people when Dave was talking contracts with them

Gross was at the end of his career and he publicly said Josh wasn't part of the core. He's also said KK is part of the core. So we'll see....

Gross' career got put on the fast track to retirement and created hostility/ill feelings about how players view the FO.  That was the start and we have seen/heard about the rumblings since.  That has been the steady Dave red flag in the wind IMO.

I think KK plays a position Dave values.  That helps him.  But Dave also drafted Butler when we had ZERO need there.  So I if I was Star or KK I wouldn't have great expectations on a sweet looking deal.   Dave wants to the view to be "Carolina got a deal there"

The panthers haven't signed any big name free agents since like 2006 and that was a damn disaster

hartwig was never healthy and kemoeatu at best never lived up to his contract. Best player from that batch was a reclamation damione Lewis.

It's just now how this team operates and that transcends coach and gm.

You forgot the biggest name, Keyshawn who was signed to like a 3 year deal but was cut (by the newly titled great GM) a year later for the outstanding second round pick in Dwayne Jarret.

But we signed a lot right before that from (2003-2005) and went to two NFCCGs and a SuperBowl....

Both those teams were built through the draft.

Buckner was a free agent but he was the fourth best player on the d line.

Mark fields didn't play on either playoff team.

Obviously jake delhomme was a miracle find, and they lucked in to spurrier cutting Davis for no reason, but that team was mostly drafted players.

Wahle and Lucas were big moves that worked out well in regards to that 2005 run.  Prohel was a big clutch move too.

and most teams are draft built.   But sometimes adding a little better players to holes than thrift shop finds can work out pretty good.

I don't endorse being the Redskins but we should probably do it more than we do

Oh yeah I forgot about wahle but that was a weird team offensively.

Lucas was good until he fell off a cliff but yeah he was cool as well

Anyway most of those players are notable mostly because of the success we had while they were here.

i mean people on here used to wax poetically and make thread after thread about how we treated jermaine Wiggins poorly just because he made a catch in the super bowl.

If things had gone differently this year we'd be getting ready to build a statue for Leonard Johnson
