This offseason: Groupon Gettleman, or does he go all in for big splash FAs?

He had cap room this past offseason and didn't even go to one of those used car shops.   So I still see nothing to suggest he is going to go buy a new Mercedes this offseason.

Even with cap space a lot of GMs believe in the thrift shop

Well, we have a lot of FAs this year that'd cost us at least $40 million from what I'm looking at, then we can spend the rest on the market if necessary.

This time around, he has the cap space.

He needs to be active in free agency. We have the cap room to bring in an impact player. Just look at a couple current playoff teams as an example. Those teams added key pieces to an already decent roster and used free agency to propel themselves forward. They also already had their qb in place

Atlanta- adding Mack has been critical to the success of that team

New York Giants:  they completely overhauled their defense and are currently playing like one of the best in the league

Oakland:. Osemele and Irvin were great additions

Not to be a downer, but for everyone of those players listed as having a positive impact, there is probably an equal list of players who are busts (Malik Jackson, Brock Osweiler, Robert Ayers, Coby Fleener, etc.).

Fortunately, I think GMan's "methodology" for signing players to bargain contracts, will force us to hit the free agent market pretty aggressively. I think team's are required under the CBA to spend at least 95% of their available cap space...so hopefully the organization will be forced to spend this off season!.

You guys know the M.O. of Dave. Under this same M.O. does not disqualify us from getting a big time free agent. It's about fit and scheme. If there is a big free agent that fits our scheme, I don't think he will hesitate to make a move and offer something. I don't want to hear about how he's cheap and low balling people. He's paid Cam and Luke handsomely and what the market was asking. So the notion of him being cheap is asinine.

I don't believe he's going to buy a Mercedes and I don't necessarily want him to. But his philosophy is filling holes through FA to be able to draft BPA and he's got the cash to take care of our core and fill those holes. I think the most obvious moves/needs in FA are LT and S. DE would nice too.

I do believe he believes in filling holes cheaply in FA (and I am not saying I disagree with that)

But I get tired of the "BPA" matra.  Dave doesn't draft BPA.  BPA is a myth/coach speak.  Dave drafts Dave guys and uses his pick to draft the best "Dave guy" he can get.

I also don't think we know if Dave really believe in a traditional "core" group of guys like a Hurney did.   Luke and Cam you just have to pay.  They don't really tell much about Dave's views.   When he first arrived here, he set things up for an early Gross exit and most recently said goodbye to Norman.....most would have penciled them a core people when Dave was talking contracts with them

He had around 20 or so right? Almost 15 was tied into Norman before it was rescinded on April 20th which was right before the draft and that caused us to miss the prime FA signing. I'm not saying he would have done much but that whole fiasco really messed up some possibilities

I Agree, I Don't Know why people use cam and Luke as examples. Those are no Brainers, GMs get fired over letting guys like that walk.
