Panthers not mathematically eliminated yet

It's not happening. But if the Bucs lose tonight, we at least go into tomorrow's game still in the picture. Always more enjoyable to see the panthers name still showing in the hunt.

It is not an exaggeration to believe we could still be the team of the decade, ripping off two or even three Super Bowl rings over the next three years.  The major pieces are in place.  It is NOT happening this year.  To put our franchise QB or top 10 pick at risk is utter stupidity.  Game OVER for 2016.  Game ON at the start of the 2017 league year, including free agency.  Maybe the young guys can play well while we find a way to lose against the Redskins and Bucs, and we finish with a winning home record by beating the Falcons while the Bengals and Eagles manage to win a game so we keep the 7 pick.  That's the best we can hope for at this point, period.

They are out.

They needed Green Bay to lose to stay in WC contention, and they needed the Falcons, Saints, and Bucs to lose today to stay in division title contention.

Green Bay and the Vikings play next week. The Packers win and they have 9 wins. The Vikings win and they have 8 wins and tie breaker over. If it is a tie, the Packers finish with an above .500 record.

If the Packers or Vikings over take the Lions, the Lions finish with 9 wins at the worst.

The Panthers have no shot to be ranked higher than 7th in the NFC.

Even if the Redskins lose out and the Packers lose out, that still leaves the Vikings and Panthers tied at 8-8 for the WC spot. Vikings hold the tie-breaker. And that is assuming the Vikings lose to the Bears so they do not get to 9 wins.

It goes by division wins before head to head outcome stupid.

The only thing I'm not sure of is what happens if New Orleans winds up at 8-8 as well. That would change things a bit and may be the reasoning we are still showing as mathematically alive.

The Saints would have the tie breaker over the Panthers in the division due to having one more win than the Panthers against common opponents.

Only way I can make it work features a five-way tie with CAR, TB, MIN, & GB at 8-8 and WAS at 7-7-2 of all things.

That is it. The only way to knock out the Vikings head to head tie breaker is for the Redskins to create a 3 way tie with a .500 record after the Packers and Bucs are eliminated with the division tie breakers. Looked past a team with 2 ties in a season, but it is possible.

The Vikings are not in the Panthers division. Division records have no weight on teams in separate divisions. The Panthers are in the NFC South and the Vikings are in the NFC North. The division record of the Panthers only has an impact on the NFC South teams in a tie break. The NFC South teams consist of the Panthers, Saints, Falcons, and Bucs. Here is a link so you can confirm who the NFC South teams are... LINK. You are very welcome.

The first wild card tie break for teams in different divisions is head to head.

We are done.

Tampa owns the tie breaker over us and it never gets to conference record.

Quote

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION
If, at the end of the regular season, two or more teams in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two teams
1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the teams).
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5. Strength of victory.
6. Strength of schedule.
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in common games.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.

They beat the Chiefs and Seahawks which gives them the edge over us and knocks us out.

CPK is right as much as I hate to say it. You missed step 2 and went to 3. If Tampa loses out and we win out we are 7-5 in the division and they are 6-6.

That said, it doesn't matter. We are still out in that case. After next week, GB either has 9 wins, 8 wins and a tie or Minnesota has 8 wins. In the case of a four way 8-8 tie (has to be or else one of those 3 teams has already eliminated us at 8-7-1 or 9-7), you break the division ties which means its us and Minnesota and head to head they swept so we are officially done.

I'm not thinking about the 7-7-2 case for Washington because I can't even ever recalling that happen.

It's over. Fat lady sang.

You're thinking Conf record not Div.

If we win out and they lose out we are both 3-3 in the Div.

But at any rate we are in fact done.
