Leonard Johnson - Keep him or let him walk?

Keep him for the time being.  He's probably not going to outright blow your pants off, but he's not going to stink up the joint either. He provides above average depth in case of injury, and also brings a great attitude.

I think that he is somewhere between a Ted Ginn or Robert McClain as far as usefulness and effectiveness in the greater scheme of things.  He's not really the guy that you want starting---or a role player that you want to have to rely on---in a perfect world, but you'll play him as though he is one if times get rough.

Gettleman will sit pat with Leonard Johnson.

Then he will realize in the middle of the 2017 season Leonard Johnson is not good enough to be a Panthers, and he will release him in November to elevate a practice squad player with no NFL experience.

Gettleman wishes he had realized his error earlier, but it is just par for the course. Bup Bup Bup.

At least he did not over pay by giving a mediocre 30 year old 3M on the season, who has never been a factor in the NFL, during free agency. That will be the one plus.

Good enough in the nickel with an improved Bradberry-Worley on the outside, but the key to Johnson and the other DBs thriving is a top-flight SAF.

If we can select Jamal Adams, Justin Evans or Budda Baker to pair beside Coleman, I think the trio of Bradberry-Worley-Johnson will be fine.  Still need a DE in FA/Draft to help get pressure up front, but that convo is for another thread.
