So I have four original Panthers paintings commemorating moments from the 2015 season, including the cover art to "Fifteen and 1"

Out of Luck - $50 bid

Solidarity's Genesis - $50 bid

As some of you know, I'm in the process of directing and producing Point Man, an independent feature film set in the Vietnam War (read the thread about it here.)  We are precisely two weeks from flying to Cambodia and becoming the second film in the past 25 years to shoot on location in Southeast Asia. Unfortunately this is also massively expensive, and while I've had a tremendous response from investors, I've incurred some major expenses (including $1600 to ship a box of machine guns and grenades to Phnom Penh, ugh) and I'm looking for ways to help fund it.

Thus I am putting four original Panthers paintings up for auction. They capture indelible moments from last season's glory, and you can either hang them on your wall and smile at the memories or hang them over your television screen on Sundays and pretend this season isn't real. You can tell they're PhillyB originals because of the lack of talent and where it says PhillyB on the canvas edge. So without further ado, here are your paintings:

Out of Luck

Out of Luck is represented in cubist style. A product of the early 20th century, cubism is an avant-garde art style made popular by the likes of Picasso and Braque. Influenced in concept by Cézanne, it is a form of abstract art that eliminates a single perspective, instead displaying subjects from multiple angles on the same dimensional medium. This often leads to a fractured look, as in the painting above.

A lot is going on in that scene, which is set, of course, on the classic Monday Night Football matchup against the Colts. Remember that night? With this painting you'll remember it forever. Andrew Luck is winding up for the game-sealing interception, his line of sight fixed fearfully on Luke Keuchly's presence. But fans in the stands see something different: Roman Harper's hand, his body marginalized but his digits critically placed, poised for a victorious ball-tipping. Rain streaks from the somber sky, flags litter the fractured landscape, and the football field, like a Dalí painting, melts off the side of an abstracted dimension, the number's fluidity perhaps a metaphor for whimsical spots offered by the referees for four quarters of football.

Perseverance in Cerulean, No. 1

oil on canvas, 13x17"

Perseverance in Cerulean, No. 1 is a reflection on the infuriating obstacles faced by the Panthers, and in particular quarterback Cam Newton. It is painted in the tradition of an early 20th century German artistic movement called Der Blaue Reiter. It was a critical part of expressionist styles in that century, and while it lacked any strict rules of composition, it was known for the use of the color blue. Blue is the color of spirituality in this movement: the surging desire for spiritual awakening comes in its darkest hues.

Here in the painting Cam Newton stands, late in the fourth quarter of that barnburning Giants game, hidden at first glance, in the maddening landscape of blotted black and shredded white: a metaphor for the stifling tenor of refereeing in that game. In the face of pressure's most unfair manifestation, Newton stands tall: his helmet faces forward, his shoulders squared, posture loose and confident. Determined, stalwart, a man cool and calculated in the face of bone-cracking pressure. Radiating blue, he and his spiritual presence transcend the dark malaise imposed by an atmosphere of institutionalized hopelessness. Cam Newton persevered.

Solidarity's Genesis

oil on canvas, 13x17"

This painting captures the very moment that a team and a fanbase galvanized each other. No prior combination of fanbase, quarterback, locker room, momentum, moxie, or institutionalized panache has ever led to a moment like this one: when Cam Newton jerked a giant Packers flag out of the hands of a bunch of cheese-eating white supremacists and single-handedly stomped out the warbling flames of Charlotte football milquetoastry. In that moment Cam said fuck you and our fanbase said yeah fuck them. That moment was a fulcrum and things haven't been the same since.

Fifteen and 1

oil on wood panel, 33x48"

This magnificent piece captures the season: foes strewn behind him, Cam Newton alone stands victorious at the top of the mountain. Represented in stunning detail, this original oil painting became the cover art to the Panthers commemorative history book 15 and 1: An Unofficial and Unfiltered History of Professional Football in Carolina, which stood as an Amazon sports bestseller for weeks. The timbre of its hues and the richness of its luster make this an eye-popping addition to any art collection.

The genesis of this gallery constitutes a tribute to the resiliency of the 2015 Carolina Panthers in all their undefeated glory. The team has cultivated a culture of winning, of transcendence - and as any artist will tell you, there is no greater subject for the palette and brush than the wonder and mystery of human transcendence.

So here's what's up. All four of these are up for auction. I have no idea what the interest level actually is, but if you make me a reasonable enough offer (considering literally hundreds of hours went into these) I will accept it and mail it to you free of charge. Every dime goes towards funding Point Man, and if you like I'll credit you in the film's rolling credits. Consider this a charity auction for the first-ever Vietnam War film to intentionally de-sensationalize the conflict and to honorably and accurately portray black GIs. You can help support a phenomenal, deeply-needed film project while also adorning the walls of your house with kitschy novelty art, which will come with a certificate of authenticity and some blustery art history descriptions so you can woo your party guests with obnoxious avant-garde explanations that none of them will care about! Win-win, right?

Post any offers in this thread. Furiously outbid each other. Bidding ends Sunday night.

America thanks you.

Also here is some info on the film so you know what the hell your charitable auction is going to support.

A fun interview with Time Warner Cable News introducing the project:

We've opened production in Atlanta by renting out a Vietnam-flown Huey helicopter, which will provide a number of crucial scenes with big-budget feels to them. Pretty kickass.
