Ex-GM Hurney: I'd sit Luke Kuechly

I'm not talking about you. It's fairly obvious who the two people are with Gettlemagic™ kneepads

That said, it's funny to me that I'm left defending Hurney on things that he shouldn't be attacked for in the first place. Hurney was an A+ drafter. EVERY GM IN THE LEAGUE fugS UP OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. It's fact, and while I know facts are far from en vogue now, it remains fact. Hurney hit damn grand slams on many occasions. Whoever would like to try and dispute that can put their laptop or phone in the oven instead

Getting past drafting, Hurney's fatal flaw was that he grew so attached to players that he made decisions that would seem absurd (not extending Jake once he was on his last legs).

Gettleman slurpers fail to realize that Gettleman is the anti-Hurney. The mafia movie buffs in here see Gettleman as a sort of Vito Corleone in a football office, but the reality is that when one extreme is incorrect, the other extreme is often incorrect as well. Such was the case with Josh Norman - a move that bestowed considerable derision upon the franchise

Dude get off the Hurney kneepads.  HE WASNT A GRADE A DRAFTER.  HE WOULD BE A GM RIGHT NOW IF HE WAS.   His bust rate was super high.  Maybe one pick from every draft other than first rounders would ever start.  There were a few teams in those years who were grade A drafters and it wasn't us.

That draft was like the worst in the last 20 years.   The media didn't want Cam going to small market dumbass Carolina and it was obvious.  He was going to be the pick no matter what, even Hurney couldn't fug that up.

Up until draft week, Marcel Dareus and A.J. Green were the ones most mocked to the Panthers. Most of early 2011 had Da'Quan Bowyers or Nick Fairley coming to the QC. It's funny that people say Hurney couldn't fug that up when examining Gettleman's strategy, it's easy to surmise that he would've gone with Von Miller or Dareus at 1. I say that with no bias. I really believe he would've gone with Dareus.

Mocks don't mean poo.  What matters is the scouting depts who get paid the big bucks.  Their job is to blow smoke up the medias ass so they can have a better chance at getting the pick they want.  All your beloved mock draft experts are just listening to what NFL insiders DECIDE to tell them.

I really thought he would pick Dareus but thank god he realized a QB is 3x more valuable and its worth the chance.

Exactly as I said.  Kalil was top 40 pick, early 2nd.  Rosario was garbage and never started or did poo anywhere. King wasn't a legit TE, just a blocker that filled in.   Marshall was garbage and sucked at the 2 and nickel.  colbert sucked.  Thats an average of 1 player a draft that even contributed as starters.

Now lets look at all his great FA signings.  hahahah

You're moving the goalposts big time

First it was "nearly everyone past the first round was a bust and never started"

*gets a list of people past the first round who started lots of games*

"...yeah but they sucked"

I just love how you believe Gettleman would have gone with the only guy in the first 6 that isn't a potential HOFer.

I'm sorry that being realistic doesn't play to your narrative, but Gettleman values DL and with a guy some compared to Warren Sapp there he would've gotten him or Miller.

Oh come on. Most places had Newton mocked to us. Rivera said so many glowing things about him with the whole time. We needed a QB and he was the top QB. It wasn't a hard pick, we got lucky the teamed sucked so bad to get the #1 pick.

Hurney was a good drafter when he had early 1sts but after early first he was awful and his run from 2009-2011 was legendarily bad. Go look at the players available where we traded picks away. Think Dez Bryant or Demaryius Thomas might have helped in the last three playoffs?

Sent from my iPhone using CarolinaHuddle

i screencapped and posted his drafts from 2009-2012 once and yeah they're pretty bad

Wow...are we down to 'Would Gettleman have drafted Cam?'

Cam was and is a once in a generation pick. Every GM would take him. ...now, placing the team around him to win. That's a whole 'nother story. The Panthers have always played the game a certain way, and it's coming through loud and clear now.

What JR wants..

JR gets.
