Matt Stafford QB of the Lions has been closely ranked to Cam by experts up until Cam's MVP season last year. Well now its looking like the MVP might be in Detroit, and Carolina is headed to the dumps. With 21 TD's and 5 interceptions Stafford is leading the Lions to a potential division title first time since 1993. What is the reason for the flip flop in each of these QB's play over the last two seasons? Calvin Johnson is retired, and the Lions offense has opened up. Stafford is seeing the field better then he has in his entire career all without Calvin Johnson... Everyone is getting in on the action, Eric Ebron, Marvin Jones, Tate, Boldin, TJ Jones etc. This seems eerily similar to what happened with Cam when Benjamin went out in 2015. The field opened up, Philly Brown, Funchess, Dickson, Ginn, fug even Bersin occasionally got in on the action. The issue to me is clear its #13, he's a great talent but he is hindering this offense from being an open attack like it was last year. The Lions are the perfect example as to what happens when you have a developing QB and lose a guy that you feel obligated to call plays for, and have to get the ball to. Much like we are the example this year of what happens when you add that type of WR back into the fold.

Its DG's fault for not getting a complimentary WR to KB, instead he got a sort of KB clone in Funchess that doesn't have a contributing role on the offense. We already have big body catchers in Olsen & KB we need a smaller shfiter WR like Lockette to stretch the defense.  DG doesn't know how to build complete complimentary roster.

This is the thought I had on that KB touchdown against Oakland when the CB covering Funchess had slipped, leaving him wide open streaking towards the end zone...but Cam was locked in on KB the whole time leading him to force a pass into tight coverage. Obviously it ended up working out on that play, but it did sort of exemplify the message in the OP.

I really like Funchess, he is such a natural hands-catcher and he looks so fluid in his routes. I wish we featured him more in this offense...he seemingly flashes once or twice every game with very limited opportunities.

Thats exactly what i'm talking about, he had Fun Fun wide open and instead opted for a covered KB (who made a Hell of a play). Again, this post was not saying Benjamin's a bad WR by any means, its just the offense has always looked defunct with him there. I refuse to believe Devin, and Brown are bad WR's, even Ginn had 10 TDs last season. The ball distribution was amazing to watch in 2015.

Stafford was playing just as well when Cooter took over last year, with Megatron. Shula is the problem.

I think it was during the Lions' Thanksgiving game when the announcers mentioned this very thing coming up in their interview with Stafford. Apparently, he said something along the lines of, "Megatron in an all-time great receiver, but with his retirement, I am able to make our offense more dangerous by spreading the ball around." I think it is a valid point for both Stafford and Cam.

You know who also showed hustle? that HS kid in practice who never got playing time.

Benjamin coming off an ACL gets more separation than Funchess. Funchess has proven every draft critic right

...Cam and the receivers need to get in a room together and say WTF....

So you're talking about the stretch where Calvin was phased out of the offense?

He was hardly "phased out." He was banged up and naturally slowing down. And is the solution to get rid of talent on offense, or to hire an OC who gets the most out of his QB and all the players on offense? QB coach is a huge problem as well. I like Dorsey but he's been horrible at helping Cam develop. When Cam targets KB over another player when that guy's open that is a problem with Cam and the coaching. Not with having KB.

That couldn't be more wrong. KB isn't the issue and isn't hindering anything. He just goes out there and runs the routes and catches (or drops occasionally) the ball. The problem is the offensive coaching, CAM (yes, CAM) and to some degree the other WRs not getting open. Solution is not to get rid of KB, it's to overhaul the offensive coaching staff which includes bringing in a QB coach who can actually help Cam develop.

I rather get rid of Funchess. Whose pretty much Dwayne Jarrett with a better QB

Stafford had his best season with Calvin, the main thing that helped out Stafford was a change in coordinator. I wouldn't mind Jim Bob Cooter as our HC

why as a HC ? He may not be suited for HC...

I have noticed that some players may be open but Cam chooses not to throw to them ...does not look their way or maybe he feels that he needs to get these players involved..whatever the reason is its not a good idea...i think the plays are design to go to one player and Cam just waits till they get open ..but as they are getting open blocks break down are don't hold long enough for him to get the ball out..I say survey all receivers and throw to who is open. the Iine has been exposed they are not allowing many long bombs.. that was something Cam did well last yr getting the ball out quick...not happening much this yr..playcalling, the hits, no one is bailing Cam out...long routes and the receiver neva looks back to see if they need to break route and comeback..they stop running and just look..that is why Wilson is so good bc his receivers know when the ball is suppose to come if not they look back and comeback to qb..when have you seen that from the receivers here..even when Cam throws they don't have any presence of coverage..they sit and wait for the ball to get to them instead of moving up and catching the ball..they let defenders break on the ball and they are left standing there with their hands open waiting on the ball....we need better receivers point blank ..better everything..these players play the same every year they are not getting better...maybe phoehl needs help too!
