Matt Stafford QB of the Lions has been closely ranked to Cam by experts up until Cam's MVP season last year. Well now its looking like the MVP might be in Detroit, and Carolina is headed to the dumps. With 21 TD's and 5 interceptions Stafford is leading the Lions to a potential division title first time since 1993. What is the reason for the flip flop in each of these QB's play over the last two seasons? Calvin Johnson is retired, and the Lions offense has opened up. Stafford is seeing the field better then he has in his entire career all without Calvin Johnson... Everyone is getting in on the action, Eric Ebron, Marvin Jones, Tate, Boldin, TJ Jones etc. This seems eerily similar to what happened with Cam when Benjamin went out in 2015. The field opened up, Philly Brown, Funchess, Dickson, Ginn, fug even Bersin occasionally got in on the action. The issue to me is clear its #13, he's a great talent but he is hindering this offense from being an open attack like it was last year. The Lions are the perfect example as to what happens when you have a developing QB and lose a guy that you feel obligated to call plays for, and have to get the ball to. Much like we are the example this year of what happens when you add that type of WR back into the fold.

I rather get rid of Funchess. Whose pretty much Dwayne Jarrett with a better QB

Stafford had his best season with Calvin, the main thing that helped out Stafford was a change in coordinator. I wouldn't mind Jim Bob Cooter as our HC

He's playing different then the seasons you're referring to with Calvin. Calvin was still a forced option he was just crazy good, Stafford is distributing the ball evenly in a very balanced offense now.

Stafford started playing well mid last season when they fired Lombardi and promoted Cooter.

It also doesn't hurt he has to stud fast WR which the lions acquired through free agency

last year, stafford had 32 TD's to 13 INT's. Yes this year he's having his best season QB rating wise and efficiency wise, but I don't think the loss of Calvin has all of a sudden made Stafford into an all pro QB.

The Lions have a much improved defense this year, and Stafford for the most part has just had to manage games, lead methodical drives, and not make stupid mistakes. He's not playing from behind like he was pretty much all of last year.

Cam on the other hand is playing from behind almost every game. Add to the fact our offensive line is porous and defenses are keying in on the pass are all recipes for disaster.

KB is definitely not the reason.

Agree with most of this but the Lions had 7 comeback wins in their first 11 games.  He still slings the hell outta that thing.

He's got a pretty good cast up there on O.  Riddick is a Sproles/Reggie Bush remix and Golden Tate is a stud.  Marvin Jones is above average and Boldin is always reliable.  They get busy in free agency.

Please, Funchess at least shows hustle. Benjamin is a fat, lazy mofo who can't even stretch out his arm for a critical first down.

Kelvin is definitely a hindrance to this offense. He is useless outside his size. No technical skills or brain. Like I said prior to the draft, he was a guy who only cared 25% of the time and didn't put in any extra work in.

Trade that bitch away.

You know who also showed hustle? that HS kid in practice who never got playing time.

Benjamin coming off an ACL gets more separation than Funchess. Funchess has proven every draft critic right

Benjamin has the mindset of a high school kid trying out football just because of his social status.

Some people are so hard on Funch but I think he deserves more looks.  Pretty deadly on slants because he's quicker and more precise than KB with pretty good size as well.

I think KB should spend all offseason working on route running and conditioning.

I remember listening to one of the Wake Forest doctors talking about serious sports related injuries such as that which KB suffered.  He said that each individual recovers at a different speed, but that sometimes a player may come back and play after a year out of sports, but getting back to where they were physically before the injury sometimes takes longer.  It might take KB a normal year of play before he gets back to where he was.

That being said, I think KB has performed adequately this year.  Good enough to win if other parts of team were functioning better.  He is the least of our concerns.  I would still like to see us put some speed on the other side though.  While Ginn is certainly a long threat, he is still not a guy that defenses really fear.

Lol yea. Funch is the modern Jarrett. Back in the good old football days, Funchess wouldn't have seen the field at all. Jarrett would be close to a 800yd, 5+ tds WR in today's NFL. Everybody see the field today.

Everyone except Philly Brown for some reason.

    • stats sort of tell partial truths though.  I mean, two RBs could average 5 yards a carry.  That alone doesn't mean they have run similar.   Those 3 offenses are vastly different on the year and what they ask of the QB.
    • I have never seen so many people who know absolutely nothing about football and high level QB play speak with such assured confidence while spewing absolute nonsense. I'm thankful as a PSL owner most fans who actually care enough to show up to BOA aren't that stupid (probably couldn't afford tickets otherwise) along with actual football people.  I try to think the best of people, but some of these threads have the intellectual discourse level of baboons flinging feces... Bryce is playing franchise QB level ball, and has been for weeks against playoff teams. Most of these haters are incels who will never admit being wrong about anything. If I never got laid I might harbor irrational hatred towards others also. But Jesus Christ what a miserable effing way to live... and we as a society have legitimized these people and encouraged them to be the loudest and dumbest versions of themselves... I'm thankful some of the people on this board still have triple digit IQs this holiday season
