I'm almost positive that he let Norman walk so he could use that Money to swing it for KK, but then KK wanted too much GMan Balked at signing him long term as well.

Kind of glad he didn't get elite money because the dude has not been anywhere near what he was last year.

The Bene point, eh. Not really sure. I thought we all expected him to be back and just as good if not better, I know I did, but maybe that was Naive. Still have no idea why he was released but the best theory I have heard was conditioning. He was solid when healthy. Still don't understand that move.

And the Johnson/Ealy Depth is on Gettleman, I agree completely. but I lump that into failing to address the lost vet leadership when Allen hung it up.

No injuries are the same but it often takes guys off those injury a season or so to get back to form.

As far as KK, I think he is fine.  All players need help to be dominant.  The 2015 secondary was able to challenge WRs off the line and on short routes more which aided all DL play.  The 2016 DB corp has a big impact on the D.  Doesn't aid the DL.    They scheme to allow short stuff now because they have to give the DB talent.  That hurts KK and gives weak DE play no time.

can't claim Norman doesn't impact our record as he impacted it last year.

We also can play coverage different if we had him.  Which would change the D completely IMO.

If you only worry about one rookie DB you can scheme personal different and be more aggressive and that likely changes multiple aspects of the D.

Given the number of close games we have lost...a better overall D means we win some of them.  Then we are in the mix right now legitimately

He doesn't impact record enough to make playoffs.  All he does is drop us down in the draft and use 14 million of our cap. This isn't a team that's one player shy of making the playoffs.

Let's be real, everyone's been getting injured this year. He'd be injured too with the luck we've had.

But good points all around, but looking at the way we lost some of our games, I don't see Norman having that much on our overall record.

Denver - Their pass offense didn't do much, they gashed us with the run. We would have won if Gano hit that last second field goal. Don't think Norman makes much of a difference.

Vikings - Offense and ST sucked plain and simple. Defense looked good actually. Norman doesn't help here

Atlanta - Julio abused us and then Cam got Concussed. Norman probably prevents Julio from getting 300, but they still torched us, he still would have gotten like 150, and Cam went down. Overall team looked like crap until garbage time.

Tampa - Cam's out, offense was inept. Defense held strong. Their kicker missed so many field goals. Not sure Norman helps us win this.

NO - I think we win with Norman. Brees doesn't have as good of a game but still gets his. We squeak that one out.

KC - Defense wasn't terrible, play calling, decision making, and time management at the end of the game was. Defense was actually stout here. Norman doesn't swing this one.

OAK - I'm sure he helps but not sure we win it. Injuries on the line ended up doing us in offensively and the defense did ok. considering. Cam's pick 6 to Mack killed us, but I bet having Norman on one side and Crabtree on the other prevents Crabtree from going for over 100, but all the TDs scored by OAK were not their main receivers. Norman's impact on a win is a toss up for me on this one (but then again I missed the majority of this game so I'm not positive about it the overall team look on defense).

Seattle - Nah man, we got curb stomped.

So looking back we have One game in which he DEFINITELY would have helped us win, and one in which he may have helped us win. So that takes us to 5-7 or 6-6 best case scenario with Norman.

We'd be in the hunt but we're still outside looking in, best case scenario, and that's if Norman doesn't get hurt like everyone else for us this year.

From Gettleman's own mouth, he doesn't draft according to need, he drafts BPA.

Gettleman thinks the BPA drafted at DT should be able to play DB. After all, the guy is the best player available, right?

But in all honesty, one need look no further than the Giants teams G-man built and their complete lack of depth across the roster and see the similarities between the two teams- very small window of opportunity to win predicated upon a lack of injuries.

We barely lost to Oakland, KC, NO, Tampa, Den etc.  should of won those with our current cast really.  Better D? Why wouldn't we win those or most of those with better D?

Norman doesn't just improve play at one spot and everything else stays the same.  Total D improves because we can gameplan and scheme different. Can scheme to aid a single rookie CB efficiently.  Challenging WRs off the snap comes back into play, gives the DL more shots, etc.

we would still have issues though and not be a dominant team like last year .  But the NFL is weak this year and we have almost won most games with very flawed D.

I see your point, but we aren't winning in the playoffs with norman. And we aren't even winning our division with him. Nothing has gone right this season.. It was over when it began.  Norman is just wasted money and a lower pick.

BPA is"Coach speak".

GMs draft off bias, need, preference, scheme,  etc.

2016 draft is proof Gettlemen drafted as a pure reaction to waking up and realizing he had no DBs.

KB and Fun also reflect a preference for a type.

Now I agree we wouldn't win in the playoffs.

But this should of been a winning season.

I'd like to ask another question:

How did we go from #1 in scoring to #15 in scoring when we returned the entire offense and replaced a WR who had 39-485-3 TDs with our 1st round pick in 2014 who had 73-1008-9 TDs in 2014?

How is that even possible and who's to blame?

Well that defense I referred to stopped getting turnovers. The injuries on the offensive line is far more extensive to what the defense has faced. Plus you know we aren't "supposed" to be an offensive team. We have Shula who isn't known for his great offenses, meanwhile our head coach is supposed to be a defensive guru.

Gee, it couldn't be because our offensive line (even before the injuries) has been regressing at freefall rate ever since SB50, could it? Nahhh, that's crazy talk.

People who are shocked just don't quite understand how the NFL works. In any salary cap based league, with the amount of turnover from year to year, it's almost impossible to maintain sustained success when parity runs deep in the culture of our sport. Add to the fact the NFL is the most physically demanding sport in the world and injuries play a huge factor, it's not hard to fathom what has happened to us this year.

The NFL also rewards teams who played poorly the previous year and punishes teams who played great (strength of schedule, draft picks, etc). There's so many contributing factors as to why teams flip flop on a yearly basis, and to be quite frank, that's how the NFL likes it. It keeps interest high, and at the end of the day, generates more money for the league. It's a business at the end of the day, plain and simple.

Explain the Patriots

some coach GM combos get it...some don't
