No because I'd like to see the backfield get younger and this draft presents a very good opportunity to do that.  But the all that extra cap space being saved from the last offseason rolling over means there is plenty of room to keep him for the final year if the staff wants to.

He's back, people that say 4 ypc don't see the most yards after contact stats.

The dude makes everyone around him better, the offense plays 100% better when he's playing so yes.

Norman going had the effect on the defense that people will see happen to the offense if he goes. Greg Olsen is the target but Stewart is the heartbeat.

Some of you are going to be very disappointed.

Stewart is pretty much gone. He's been beat up physically, has no line to run behind, and we get almost $5 Million to cut him.

$5 Million dollars would get us the best back in the draft and leave us with money left over to put towards extending guys like Short and Turner, if we so choose, or building a better line for our new RB and Cam to perform behind.

I love Stewie as much as anyone the Panthers have, but I just really see Gettleman looking at the bigger picture.

5 mil is nothing for your starting RB. Guys like Tolbert get 2 mil. You do realize we need a bruiser in order to have any type of rushing game with our line. Someone like Dwill would suck playing behind our line.

yes dumb to let him go!! we know is history but when he plays he's a beast until we get someone else like we did with Foster.. need to look around fozzy is not doing it.. not sure on Artis... Rivera's dog house and SHula's por play calling makes it hard to judge our talent..but yes keep Stewie!

FYI Jeremy did post up today some of his thoughts on possible offseason player moves:

Cap Savings if released – 4.75 million

Stewart comes with a significant price tag next year for the Panthers, but has proven to be by far the most complete running back on the team. Some would say the only NFL caliber back. Throw in the fact that he is also top notch when it comes to protecting Cam Newton and it makes his price tag more reasonable. Still, there is a chance he will no longer be a Carolina Panther. Much will have to do with the draft. If the Panthers grab a runner in round 1, it could spell trouble for Stewart.

At this point of career Stewart is more effective coming off bench. He still has a couple more productive years left but more of a third down back and not as a every down back. Too many miles. Unfortunately I do not see him coming back as a back up as not sure how you would re-negotiate that deal and save the team much money.

I think he is gone. Also, I think CAP and Fozzy are journeyman more of a dime a dozen players and nothing special.Next year's starter is not on this roster whether it be through draft or FA.

Pie for including the actual contact numbers :-)

Considering cap, age and lack of durability, we should get rid of him.

Actually, I see no reason to keep anyone in our backfield. With the Elliot effect a lot of rbs will be overdrafted this spring, meaning veterans with milage left will be cut. Better options will be available cheaper.

Can't get mad at others for not agreeing with you, son.

I can, however, get mad at others when they show a complete lack of cerebral ability with regards to common fuging respect towards another member of this site.

These mother fugers (every other user on this forum) have more in common with you than most of the fugs you pass by, on the street. Show them a little courtesy and heed your own words. You can't jump someone's poo just because they don't agree with you.

For fug's sake, son.
