I keep seeing Huddlers speculating on draft picks or roster positions for year 2017 with Jonathan Stewart still on the roster in Carolina filling a role.

2017 will be the first year the Panthers could gain measurable relief from the 9.5 Million Dollar cap number Hurney left us with.

So in your opinion, will JStew be a Panther next year?

My gut says yes but I would be thrilled if we got a young RB or two in his mold.

Releasing him seems like a Gettleman move, especially if we draft a back or some Uglies. Of course, it's quite possible that Stewart will be successful somewhere else for another one or two years and the Huddle will complain about it. Par for the course.

Two things would have to happen for him to not be a Panther. We'd need to draft a HB in the first round or two with a plan of him being the workhorse back. And we'd need to not trust any HB behind him as a CoP or in case of injury. I think it's unlikely both those things happen as the second would require we sign a HB in FA that's much cheaper than Stew and is trustworthy since what we have now wouldn't cut it. And even if those two things happened I could still see Stew staying, with or without a pay cut.

If CAP can't be trusted by year 3 cut his arse too.  Don't disagree they need someone they can trust, but Stew's cap hit is just too much to be a glorified baby sitter.  Hopefully a CJ level pay cut if he stays.
