Cam scrambling numbers

Collinsworth brought this up at the beginning of the game, but it still has me dumbfounded. Cam has scrambled a grand total of 3, yes 3 times this entire year. That HAS to be on order from the coaching staff because they are concerned about him taking hits and want him to exclusively be a pocket passer. I just can't buy that a guy who has been playing QB as long as Cam who has always used his legs as his greatest weapon at every level from high school to the pros would not be looking to take off and run unless it was on orders from the coaches. And if thats the case its really a shame because theyve essentially taken Lebron James and told him to stop going to the rim and only shoot jump shots.

Cam is a good passer, and when he gets in a groove he's a great passer. But he's at his best when he uses his legs and becomes a true dual threat that forces defenses to play a little cautious and respect the threat he brings as a runner. We can want him to be a pure pocket passer all he wants, but if we dont allow him to use his legs why do we even put him on the field?

Cam shouldn't be running unless he's scrambling or it's a 4th and short or goal line situation where his skill set there is necessary for a hugely important play in a game. Need a complete overhaul of the offensive system and theory. Can't have the entire team based around one player, including the run game. Draft Fournette, bring in a real OC to build the offense around the run game NOT including Cam, and then let Cam go from there. Look at Dallas. Could you imagine just plopping Cam onto Dallas' offense instead of Dak. That offense would be unstoppable. Build a dominant run game here then let your MVP QB do whatever he wants with defenses either focused on the run or focused on Cam which opens up that run game and makes it so Cam doesn't even have to do anything if they're going to just focus on him.

Could we build the offense around Cam as a passer? Of course and I wouldn't be against it, it's just not my preference. Much better than building the offense around him as a runner which is how it is right now, but I don't like the philosophy of passing teams.

I see it like this: Take care of business on defense, have a strong running game to prolong drives and control the ball and just gradually put up scores on your way to a 28-6 (for example) win. That's exactly how Dallas is winning right now. Dak's been fine but it's all because of their overperforming D (good coaching and philosophy there) and dominant run game and ability to control the ball and time of possession that they're winning. Just like we did in 2013 except the offense wasn't very strong. Philosophy was there but the pieces on O weren't, mainly because DG had just come in and we were cap strapped and had a lot of work to do there.

Last season our D was suspect much of the year (not really in the playoffs except for one half against Seattle) but our offense was kind of finesse based and that was the issue. We couldn't establish the run against the Broncos and that's what killed us. It wasn't Remmers or the offensive line or whatever. It was the inability to establish the run game which would then open things up for Cam and the pass game even with our line against their dominant pass rush. It was all philosophy. Yes, Stew was hurt but honestly we should be able to build the offense to have a sustainable run game even with a guy like CAP.
