There are only 53 roster spots on a team, with less than that active on game day. This team has been decimated by injuries. How good of players do you think there are out there to play as backups. If they are good enough to start, they get paid, and they start. If they are a backup, it's because by definition they aren't good enough to start. 

Sorry Gettleman doesn't have a Deloreon or a most excellent time traveling phone to go back and get a prime Polomalu or prime Ed Reed to play backup safety for us just in case our current starter got hurt.

C'mon man. 

I have never once complained about Gettleman on this board.  But to trade a 4th rounder for a damn punter yet go into the season with 2 rookie CB's and McClain as your backup is ridiculous.  He failed this team.  Same with the OL.  He failed to leave this team with even somewhat competent backups.  There is no excuse.

The team we had in preseason wasn't a 4-8 team that looks completely defeated. I loved the MMQBs that act like we started this season with dog poo in talent.

Also, since when is Gettleman's job to prepare the team to win. That is the god damn coaches job. You guys blaming Gettleman for execution amazes me. Disagree with getting rid of Norman, sure, I'd have loved to have had Norman this year, but honestly, we wouldn't be any better the way we've played so it would have been wasted. Glad we didn't resign Short before the season either. That said, he put the team together, but he doesn't have any input on their discipline, penalties, bad route running, pick 6s, not going for it on 4th and 1, sitting your MVP QB, etc. He's not the head coach, he's the freaking GM.

DG has been here along enough. We have one of the most cap space in the NFL. We are NOT the damn Browns that was far away from competing for a SB.

The Panthers CONSTANTLY try to go bargain shopping and leave Newton out here to dry with sub-par talent all over the offense. 

IT HAS BEEN 6 YEARS SINCE NEWTON STEPPED INTO THE WORST OFFENSE OF ALL TIME. THE PANTHERS HAVE DONE ALMOST NOTHING TO UPGRADE SAID OFFENSE.

Meanwhile, the damn Raiders have ALREADY given Derek Carr more talent on offense than Newton has gotten in 6 years.

Stop trying to defend our moronic front office.
