He was successful the year he started and had back to back to back to back playoff seasons.

Are you saying we should automatically give a coach a ten to twelve year grace period hoping he turns into a good coach?

Some asked why Tomlin hadn't been fired.   So I asked should Cowher of been? Pitt doesn't pointless replace coaches with guys who aren't really better.

Build your roster.  That is how to win.

No, I am not talking referring to Jim. I dance to the beat of a different  drummer, but I don't live under a rock. I heard his name come up on sports radio. Not only have there been past rumors connecting him to Michigan, USC and LSU, but he is rumored to have expressed interest in coaching a college program. This fairly recent article mentions him as well.

"Texas would be more likely to land a coach from a group that could include North Carolina's Larry Fedora, Boise State's Bryan Harsin, Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh and former LSU coach Les Miles."

http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college-sports/texaslonghorns/2016/11/24/strong-may-done-texas-herman-appears-lsu-bound-come

And that isn't the only source mentioning John Harbaugh.

But, like I said, I doubt he involuntarily goes anywhere.

Well I'm sorry I work for a living. I don't stay in the basement and listen to sport talks all day.

I can see how John is "EXPRESSING" interest in coaching a college program.

Now, you said "going back to the college rank" as like he was such a great coach in college like his brother.

Our OL simply doesn't allow so many basic functions even with healthy....we have to max protect for basic pass plays and their run blocking stinks.

Talent here drastically would handicap any OC.

Fix the talent.  Talent dictates wins or losses more than coaching in the NFL (NFL coaching is largely equivalent)

I def agree. But hate to break the news to us. Under Jerry Richardson and Gman, our talented starting OTs in 2017 will be Remmers and Williams.

You remember Byron Bell? Yea, since Gross retired it's been Bell and Remmers blocking for Cam; TWO FUGGN UDFAs.

Not trying to be funny, just casually informative. There are more than a few people who believe John is a better coach period than Jim, even Jim himself.

"John is the best coach I know, the best I've ever come across or competed against. I'm envious of the grasp he has of the entire game. I think offensively and with quarterback play, I'm right there with him. But I've got a ways to go in terms of special teams and understanding defense the way he does. I'm half as good as John is, but I'm trying."

Tomlin has a Lombardi trophy no matter how you want to slice it. He has fielded competitive teams for the most part, and may have been on his way to another Supet Bowl had Burfict not cheap-shotted AB. Most everyone in the pros thinks that he is one of the better coaches in the game. Professionals generally think highly of certain coaches for reasons that many lay people just don't understand, and, personally, I will defer to their knowledge.

Ummmm, Bell, Brown, Big Ben, etc. Cowher had to start from scratch.

Steelers had winning seasons in 2 of the 3 prior seasons to him taking over from a GOAT (and none of those guys mentioned are even on Woodson's all time level who was one of the players Cowher inherited)

Since 1969 they have had 3 coaches..Noll (23 years), Cowher (15 years) and now Tomlin.

The Steelers flat out don't believe in pointlessly playing musical chairs at coach like most teams do.

If Bill Cowher was our head coach...this board would treat him as a hybrid of Ron Rivera and Shula and demand we hire a good coach.  # realtalk.   He put back to back losing seasons together in year 7 and 8 and hadn't won diddly leading up to that.

as long as our coach motivates and has a lockeroom? We need to work on improving our roster that has sporadic and even talent distribution.  We are losing games because we are working trying to work magic around holes for 4 quarters.  You can't do that consistently in the NFL.  We schemed all year successfully around a weak OL in 2015.  It wasn't going to happen twice and all our FO did was give this year was add a 2nd major obstacle to scheme around (pass coverage).  Belichick himself isn't going to solve that being our HC.  Our problems get solved by who we can put on the field.
