Belichick wasn't the problem in Cleveland and he didn't magically become a good coach when he left.

Carroll wasn't the problem in NY and didn't learn how to coach when he left.

Rivera isn't one of the bigger problems here.   Give Ron a solid cast on D and he will give you a top 5 D.  Simple as that.  Give him enough talent on O to do what he wants and "logical Ron" would consistently win.   He would never be a GOAT mind but you don't need and HCs who aren't have managed multiple rings.  It is just about getting there.

Not likely.

Ron isn't a guy who's good at adjusting on the fly.  He's one of those "build the system and let it run" types, which is okay until someone figures out the system and how to beat it.

Our system has been figured out, and yet we keep running it as if somehow it's magically going to get better and start winning again.

As has been said many times about Rivera, he's playing Checkers while opponents are playing Chess.

Wasn't Gross at the end of his contract? Kalil signed an extension a few months ago to play 2017 and 2018. I highly doubt he'll retire after this year when his plan was to likely play this year and 2 more. It's a shoulder injury and I have no doubt he'll be recovered by camp. ACL where he might not be ready for the season, maybe retirement comes up.

This team is not a heartless bunch of guys. I am pretty sure the close losses piling up is eating at them and maybe again too optimistic, but I see another fantastic year next year. I want to see some moves, good draft picks and maybe some coaching shake up, but healthy, this team already has the talent to beat anyone. Oakland's a top 3 team and we should have beaten them on the road with Kuechly, Addison, Kalil and Oher on the shelf and losing 2 more OL in the game.

well Gross was kinda forced into the end of his career by Gettlemen so it isn't apples to apples.

But if Gettlemen has to rebuild the D and O....Kalil may or may not want to put his body through it.  I personally think smart lineman should start to retire early.

Ron has proven he can run about any defense in the book.....pending you give him the actual talent.  He isn't like some defensive guys that believe in 1 version of D.  You pair a top 5 D with a conservative run O (and the talent to do it) you will win in the NFL.  It isn't always sexy and fun but it works.

Most coaches know exactly what the other coaches are doing.  Talent simply can prevent you from even attempting to do exactly what you know you have to in order to win.  Dallas is playing Candy Land on O.  They ain't even thinking of learning the complexity of checkers.

IMO we do.  Tackles don't grow on trees and we have many holes to fill (DE, RB, TE, S, C).  Stew is getting older and I don't see this system as being consistent.  I think its great against some teams but we need a base offense that is quick throws and can beat these playoff type defenses without running down their throat.

Fair point. It really comes down to philosophy and having the right personnel to execute your vision. Our system worked against all but 2 teams last year. You have to say logically that's a percentage you can work with. To your point, the system broke down because we don't have the right guys for the job this year. When the machine breaks down you look to find the most efficient way to fix it. Maybe it's changing the system, maybe its replacing guys that aren't performing to the standard. Which is more attainable? Who knows, both paths should be examined thoroughly.

Brutal, tough cuts when it comes to players?  Yes.

I'm still waiting to see someone in the front office or the coaching staff be let go for performance reasons.

Gettleman didn't want to be the "clean house and bring in his own people" guy but there are definitely some upgrades to be made in certain spots.

Sadly, I'm not yet convinced he's willing to do that.

Mr. Scot, with all your football knowledge I'm really surprised you are so adamant about a drastic coaching change at this point.

I wouldn't call the team trash, but to each their own. I don't think it is a good sign, but the guys going to IR didn't play or barely played on Sunday and again we almost beat the Raiders on the road. That isn't trash.

I'd call his offensive line officially trash as of today.  You can't expect and sort of consistent play from Cam given it is what it is now.  There is no super scheme to survive 4 quarters with it.

at this point, I just feel bad for Cam Newton.   Trash around him and the media circling above him....

Hope he can escape injury free down this stretch where he is at an all time high in terms of being targeted.

And he will be blamed for every bit of this. He's also gonna be expected to perform and just make it happen.

We need faster receivers to help this line and Cam. It will be impossible in one offseason to rejuvenate 3 positions in one Oline. These slow lumbering lethargic weapons we have are not cutting it. Ginn only has straight line speed and is not a quick in any sense plus he will be 32 next season.

Ron is a top flight defensive coordinator, no doubt.

Head coaching is a different skill set, and he just doesn't have it.

It's not a new feeling.

I lost faith in Rivera two years ago.  Last season gave me hope, but now it's gone again.

Basically, I see the same mistakes being made that have been made since Rivera got here.

Love Ron and his family.  He's a hell of a guy, just not what I want in a head coach.

And yes, I know what a full coaching change entails.  Believe me, if I didn't truly believe it was necessary, it's not something I'd want to see.

Cam's presser tomorrow:

"Cam, what is the mood like with Kalil going to IR? Is there any worry?"

Cam-"no. Next man up. We are professional athletes, and we understand injuries happen. We can't dwell on that. My job is to win football games."

But Cam is really thinking "is my will updated? I need to make sure I speak with my lawyers and accountants before Sunday. I need to add the new baby in. I also need to tie up and loose ends in business. I have to pick my suit out for my funeral. I need to out the hat I want to be buried in as well as my shoes. In the event I make it out alive, I need to schedule a surgery date for January 2017."
