Steve Wyche: Negative Vibe Inside of Panther's Organization

seriously if you guys think the ads are bad at BoA stadium you've never been to another nfl stadium.

the georgia dome looks like a carnival float. during a big play replay they'll first enter the "AirTrain Dick Sucking Zone" or whatever and show a ten second spot of a plane landing on the jumbotron.

I can back you up on that. Geez!

Not true. When I worked there I told him he should stop by the Huddle tailgate one time, and he did, no questions asked. Big Cat gets it. He hands out something to every employee....a handwritten note that says "The fans are the most important people in the organization."

Unfortunately, there is a "we're in and we need a wall that keeps people out for us to feel more important" mentality among many employees. I saw it first hand.

But don't think Big Cat doesn't care about the fans. Ask the people who were at the tailgate that day. He posed with their kids, stopped by and chatted for a while.

I was waiting for your insight before I was willing to buy into this.

Yasinskas has written that some sort of big blowup happened between the Richardson boys. Thus, "irreconcilable differences" led to the divorce. In a way, it's almost a Solomonic dilemma on Richardson's part. Choose one son over the other or send both packing? Big Cat apparently chose the latter.

Right now, I'm waiting to see what kind of effect Danny Morrison is going to have.

Regarding Jerry Richardson and the fans...

Most people with knowledge of the league would call Jerry Richardson one of the more fan-friendly owners in the NFL. He harkens back to Lamar Hunt in that he's willing to be accessible to fans in a lot of ways.

With that said, "fan friendliness" does not, and shouldn't, include listening to fan input on coaching and personnel decisions.

Ever :nonod:

THANK YOU!!! I'm so glad you said that. Some people on here think that this is some kind of news outlet and that everything should be hard facts. This is a forum on the Carolina Panthers, who are currently 0-2, what do you expect? Of course emotions are high, of course people will make assumptions and even say things that don't make a lot of sense, but here's the magic little secret that gets me through it all...you don't have to read it.

Everyone has an opinion and unfortunately there are people that no matter what they won't LISTEN to others opinions. Everyone is so quick to attack others on this board that noboday just pays attention to what is said and what isn't said. Yes JR is a great owner, probably in the top 10 in the league, but the current state of the team is unexceptable and his has to shoulder some of the blame, after all they don't call him the BIG CAT for nothing. The same could be said if we won a Super Bowl, the same people who say he has no effect on the team will be the same ones saying that JR got us a Super Bowl. Its all relative and its natural for people to quesiton every aspect of an organization who starting with last season's playoffs have severaly let their fans down.

So while its tough to "know" exactly what JR is thinking and doing, its also been tough to watch the Panthers play the last 3 games (7 including preseason). We as fan deserve the right to question, criticize, and down right accuse people of doing whatever we think they may be doing. Who cares if its true or not? I'm sure JR will be just fine no matter what is said in this thread.

Feel free to share any and all opinions you have. Yes, it's a message board. But when people throw out retarded poo with absolutely no basis, expect to hear about it...

And the bolded part... how can JR shoulder blame when he wasnt running the organization? That is how this thread was started.... I think that's the part you all are missing here.. Speaking of reading what someone is or isn't saying... *ahem*

Yea, again, let's resort to facts instead of ridiculous, non sensible claims....

Just to clarify, I was only relaying what was said on a show that is ran by a network that is an entity of the NFL itself. So, while I don't bank on much the media reports anymore until there is solid, visual proof... I'm pretty sure they don't allow just any kind of irresponsible wreckless crap to be reported on their network.

So, to everyone in this thread, DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER.

Yes, I have my own assumptions and opinions, just as everyone else does on this board. But, I believe for the most part, I didn't try to add anymore to the story or rumor than what was reported by Steve Wyche.

But, as I said, I really do think there is something not right with this team/organization at this time. I don't have to hear a report to figure out that morale is low. All I have to do is watch a game.

In my personal opinion, I do think that Fox has lost this team. I hope he proves me wrong, b/c about 99% of us thought the same thing in 2004 and 2006. I really hope he can rally the troops this time. But, something has got to change about the way things have been handled both on and off the field. There is just a feeling of turmoil.

That being said... Regardless, I think Big Cat is a great owner. He's well-respected around the league and the team seems to cling to every word he has to say. And I will forever be grateful that he had the vision and initiative to bring us our own team here in North Carolina. I just really hope we see some change in the next few weeks in our performance, and all this crap surrounding the team will fade away.

I agree with you about the motivation thing.. Everyone points to this team having no heart or motivation, but never has this team ever given up. This defense, even last week, was still playing til the end. With that said, I have to assume it falls on our coaching staffs ability to put this team in a position to stay consistent and win against the best teams in the league..

as for your post, I wasn't addressing you in any way.. But since you brought it up, when I look at topics, there are many things that play into whether it holds depth and weight. This was reported, now does it hold true to other things we've come across in the past?

If not, then take it with a grain of salt. However, from a guy who use to work for the Panthers and others who have had interactions with the F.O. to the brothers getting the axe.. You have to assume there could be truth to the matter. Now, again, is it a hardcore fact? Who knows, but you have to put all things together and come out with the best take on the situation.

My point is, how do you take all of that and come out saying, "Richardson dug himself into this hole and now has to get some of the blame" when the guy wasn't even running the show during this time...

It's absurd. And it happens all the fuggin time in other topics. All I ask is use some fricken common sense...

Btw, the messenger isn't even apart of what I'm discussing... It's all the asinine comments that I'm supposed to take to heart because all things "are opinions and deductions. The only facts any of us have are statistics, which largely don't mean anything either." Are you kidding me? Yes, it's second hand, but spare me the propaganda... There are 2 types of opinions made in this thread. 1) opinions formed based on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 10th, 50th hand accounts, and 2) opinions based on nothing. And for the record, there isn't just one guy I'm talking about. There are several.

Preach it as you will, but the 1st holds some sort of creditable evidence and the 2nd is just bullshit. I have no idea where the 2nd comes from, but at least try to pin point that opinion to something rather than nothing at all.

Wow... enough with the rants. I think the point has been made.

Opinions are not facts. They can be based on facts, but they are nothing more than deductions based on one individual's observation. This entire thread, including the article it's based on, is nothing but opinions. There are no facts in this case. Even if JR himself were on here, his posts would be skewed by his own bias on how he's running the organization. You can't say, "post your opinions" and then say, "stick to the facts." Those two statements are contradictory. Feel free to blast my opinions as wrong and post a counter argument, but don't tell me not to say it.

read my above post.. We can play with words all day long. Sometimes it's even fun. However, take out the idea of being so technical on the word and realize you based your opinion on something that DID NOT EXIST. Richardson did not run the company at the time this "shake up" occurred, so for people to say Richardson is at fault is asinine. This is my point, this is my opinion, and that is also a fact. 2 of which may not be the same, but can be said together about this situation.

Opinions are not facts. They are a sum of ideas put together by a person. I can only put it out there for all to read that I hope people BASE THEIR OPINION on some sort of factual evidence.

Factual evidence may be substituted for evidence/accounts/observations that actually occurred. Play with the word fact all day, but the point still holds true...

Lol, I gotcha. I know you weren't talking about me, I just wanted to say that in general b/c there had be several posts throughout this thread that seemed like they were mad about the thread.

But, I think, like you said, many have just grown frustrated with the over-opinionated and under-informed style of posting that has been running rampant in recent weeks.

And I agree completely with everything you said, both about the organization and the problems with posting on this board recently.

Of course, you'd think that local media might dig into what really happened with JR and his sons, but no, that did not happen. So we won't find out whether this rumor is true.

http://www.heraldonline.com/247/story/1631252.html

somebody heard you

However, if there's one story that underscores the struggles and differences between the brothers that made their departures inevitable, it's this one:

While playoffs aren't generally a financial boon to players (who make fractions of their regular season salaries), they were always a windfall for the people who count the tickets or sell the ads or fix the plumbing.

All employees, regardless of department, used to get a week's salary as a bonus whenever the Panthers went to the playoffs. The 2003 Super Bowl run is still remembered wistfully by those who got the extra month's worth of pay to go along with the team's success.

However, when the Panthers went to the playoffs last year, there were no bonuses, the first stage of the cost-cutting that resulted in the layoffs. That left some employees bitter, but most chalked it up to being an economic reality.

That's when stadium president Jon Richardson went to his employees on the stadium operations side and gave each one a $100 bill out of his own pocket. Multiple sources who received the goodwill gesture said Jon Richardson admitted being “embarrassed he couldn't do more.”

The problem for the family was that his brother, team president Mark, didn't do the same with his employees upstairs, which left him looking like a heel inside the building. One team source described Mark Richardson as “furious” with his brother, for what he felt like was upstaging him within the organization.

Story fits in with a lot of what we already knew about the brothers, and confirms what Meat had said as well.

Mark's reaction to his brother's act of kindness says a lot. Instead of making a similar gesture, he complains about being cast as the bad guy.

A quick lesson in public relations: This response makes you look even more like the bad guy :nonod:

I feel for Jerry. This had to hurt, a lot.
