Panthers make more roster moves.

I hope that Gman thought it was an epic failure in the SB against an amazing defense by our tackles. Last year we had what many considered to be one of the best offensive lines in the NFL until the SB fiasco, so keeping them solid might have seemed like a wise plan at the time. We can always use line depth and improvements. Unfortunately, finding starting caliber tackles has become a bit of a crap shoot in the draft. 1st rounders are flopping at an alarming rate because it appears colleges aren't preparing them for the NFL game.  FA is the way to go IMO, but you're going to pay for it if any are even available.

The whole "well it was the same OL as last year" argument is reallllllllyyyyyyy hollow.

That's based on the assumption that you are okay with the fact that our OL just so happened to be terribly outmatched/exposed in the biggest game in the history of our franchise. And to top it all off have been falling right off a cliff ever since. No big deal, eh? Let's just roll the dice with Newton, and Kuechly in their prime. Who could have seen this coming?

This logic being applied to justify this crap season is vomit inducing.

Why do people like yourself have to go so far to convince yourselves that there was literally nothing whatsoever we could have done to address our OL depth? I'm not talking about magically acquiring some pro bowl starter, I'm talking about basic depth.

Too many people in this fan base revel in mediocrity. As if just having a team is enough. F*ck that noise man.

Oh. Basic depth. Hmm.

Let's imagine Gettleman never got Gino this season, and we have to rely on Scott as our backup for most of those games

And really, you won't find many depth quality tackles last free agency either. Not many teams give up good tackles.

Really does come down to you not being able to back up statements with cold hard facts, or coming up with a solution with credible sources cited.

Really that was more Shula than anything against Von, who, by the way, has abused a many RTs than just Remmers.

This season injuries killed the oline from continuity and keeping consistency as a group. Nothing management has done.

Then again, you seem know everything, so I'm still waiting for a list of players you'd get last year, and how you'd solve paying the 2017 and 2018 FAs.

Yeah you're right. You just screaming "PROVE IT!!!", and "well hey why don't you just name the names of every FA OL ever, or you just don't know what you're talking about" at the top of your lungs is really hitting me upside the head with "cold hard facts".

You sure showed me.

This is why arguments like yours are invalid.

You can't find a solution to the problem you say exists.

This basically nullifies any argument that Gettleman could've done better, because you can't even think of what you'd do instead.

But, let me help you a bit. Here's every FA tackle last season:

https://walterfootball.com/freeagents2016OT.php

Not a very good class of FA tackles, and the good/depth quality ones were either overpaid or resigned/tagged by the team.

Get going. Since you obviously could do better than Gettleman. Just make sure we got enough cap to make sure there won't be holes for our 2017 and 2018 FAs.

I just want to be 100% clear. The same tone, and rationale you're throwing at me right now was also used frequently in defense of our previous GM.

If you want to merely settle, that's up to you bud. But sitting there, and dismissing anything, and everything because you can't stand the thought of Gettleman making a mistake is pitiful.

Me suggesting perhaps we could have done more in the offseason isn't even remotely absolving our staff or players of blame either. I've gone in depth on that several times already.

I don't think anyone is saying we couldn't have done more in hindsight or that this offensive line was all pro. Like I said before, I hope Gman thought it was a fluke against a stacked defense and our oline and Shula poo'd the bed. I've said it many times before in previous threads, get your qb which we did, protect him which we haven't done well, and get him weapons which we did before addressing the oline. Injuries have been devastating, but yeah, we need to address the oline this offseason. I like FAs over draft picks because you know what you are getting, but FA generally requires overpaying, which I don't like. It's a balance game we appear to have lost this year.

So, you're switching your argument from Gettleman sucks to a mere we could've done more?

That's reasonable. Most GMs would say they could've done more, especially the good ones.

However, not many GMs expect their oline to fall like dominoes this season. But don't act like Gettleman hasn't done anything (Gino)

Daryl is a good RT, Remmers is plugginable at nearly any oline position, and he's good as depth and a backup. We're down to our depth tackles right now for crying out loud, the ones Gettleman made sure to have in stock.

Now, name me a team that would be prepared to have decent NFL level of play with their 3rd tier depth. Honestly, most are hoping just that their starters don't go down.

We have pretty good depth, but we shouldn't expect great play when we technically have backups at both tackles and center.

Honestly don't see how you could blame management for this. To expect great play from every depth player with so many around you hurt is ludicrous.

Has Gettleman made mistakes? Sure, there are some examples (i.e. Smith handling) but his positives outweigh the negatives. But to put blame on our Oline problem on the management is pitiful.

Just understand your argument was already proven invalid and without grounding, and everything you're currently spouting out is mere hot air.

I stopped reading at you insinuating me in any way suggesting Gettleman "sucks".

I've never said that. Never said he should be fired, or anything absurd like that

I've been completely onboard with many of his moves.

I've actually also been one of the few here not panicking like a hyena after he goes DL again early in the draft. I liked the Bradberry pick too.

You're being intentionally retarded right now , so I don't think there is much left to discuss. Which is on you.

Very fair. With all the trolls I'm trying to educate, I mistakened this post and assumed you were another Gettleman basher. Your voicing through this sounded like every pos troll out there, so I reacted like so.

The fact that we're reduced to the point of practically having to pray that Remmers of all people doesn't get hurt should really tell you what an utter failure our offseason was.

Even the nicest Panthers homer shades can't make that stinker look better.

I'll take that back, and assume you just simply disagreed with one of his moves, and assume you're not mentally retarded like the other mindless gettleman bashers.

I don't consider our offseason as a failure, which is where I brought some figures and facts to support how hard of a task Gettleman truly has.

Could one simply say last offseason Gettleman could have done nothing more? Nope, because there's always something more you could do in hindsight.

Did he simply fail and not do anything to try and help the team? Well, his signing of our backup C shows something, and we had Remmers and a solid RT in williams if one or two of our tackles go down, as well as Hawkins (whom we're most likely stashing in the PS for the sake of C depth).

I'm trying to clarify how injuries really kill an oline, and how management really can't do anymore about it without spending worthless money.

Next years free agents have really capped what we could do last offseason.

Now, is it fair to say that our oline is suffering problems right now? Yes. I just disagree with it being managements fault.

You reacted emotionally while I'm attempting a rational argument to refute your claims, but your emotional reply with very little facts supporting your claim makes you come across as a negative troll like everyone else.

But I'm not the one who'll decide your opinion, just like you're not going to decide mine.

I mean, I suppose you could argue the wording (failure) if you wanted to be really really obnoxiously picky.

But by comparison, there's no way you can go from nearly undefeated with a Super Bowl appearance to competing for worst in the NFC South, and still consider the 2016 offseason anything but mediocre at absolute best.

You are proposing a team has 3 quality  left tackles? soundsort great but not very common
