I think on Shula's best day he is a very average OC. Dumping everything on him doesn't make us better....because our issues go beyond him.   I'm an not against him being fired if we come back 0-2 from the Raiders....but Shula has to be the start to a fair number of needed changes.

But I would like to make a plea, can the Shula Defense Squad at least be Voltron, the Thundercats or anything besides Captain Planet? Every time you post it, it takes a good 20 minutes to get that theme song out of my head.

Name a team that will put a worse OL on the field Sunday than the one Carolina will?

a wise man once told me, big men up front all you to compete.  people say he is very very wise.  very.

McDermott had even MORE talent on his D....when we lost almost every game to start the season blowing 2nd half leads.  But that is different I guess.  Excuses can apply there.

Vikings and seahawks. That's about it

a running back is nullified if blocking can't hold up?! color me shocked! however did he make the probowl last year?!

I'll take 10 TD's from a #3 receiver, and Funchess is very talented especially in the red zone. we need to be able to use him correctly, which comes from...you guessed it! coaching!

Are we going to keep bringing up last year ? I'm trying to figure out how that has a impact on this season ?

What way is funchess not being use correctly? Yes he does well against zone coverage but can't get separation consistently vs man coverage and his route running needs work. That's the problem here, the mindset that funchess and ginn are better then they actually are, I mean Jericho had 10 td's with Pitts before signing here and we saw how that played out. You can coach talent into a player.....

I keep going back to the draft. You're not able to get Jared Cook or any other TE fa, that's fine. Just draft Hunter Henry, and boom, we incorporate two TE sets like Shula wanted to do.

Instead, we draft Vernon Butler, who Dave probably didn't have much expectations for this year.

As someone that drafted Hunter Henry, he has done nothing but disappoint me.

If you're lucky, one or two rookies will have a meaningful impact their first season and even then, they will make mistakes.

I'm all for rallying, but I'm honestly tired of the whole "start slow, rally late" rollercoaster.

I want consistency.

So does just about every other team in the league. 49ers had it briefly and now they're awful. Packers fans I know have hated McCarthty for years and now that may not end well. If Tomlin misses the playoffs this year, that's only 2 appearances in the last 5 years. Coughlin could no longer ride those SB wins as they got tired of his teams being all over the place.

You do get consistency in the sense that you get similar strengths and weaknesses from the coaching staff. The Patriots seem to be the only team in the entire league that can adapt and even then, they get the benefit of having a consistently bad division to play in.

Our complaints are not unique. Every fanbase always have their grievances about their staff. The question is whether a change will actually make things better or worse.

Did I say that? I said Shula knew there was going to be a counter to the max protect scheme he used all last year and new Carolina needed to revamp (which means talent).  That was just one reported example

He also needed better OT play so he didn't have to max protect more than anyone in the NFL to survive.  The sheer fact Shula was forced to comically max protect to get off plays was a coaching staff basically screaming for talent on the OL (and they got none)

You didn't say that.  But my problem is if that's what Shula thinks it would take to make it work, then he has no clue.

Shula knew he couldn't repeat last years scheming around of things and be successful this year.

I'm pretty sure any coaching staff that lead  the NFL in max protection wanted OL changes.  They can't be vocal in the media because if your GM fails to aid you...you would be stuck with guys you trashed.

Yeah but you are talking fantasy Hunter.

real life Hunter is the 2nd TE paired with Gates.

He is on pace for 624 yards and 7 TDs.  Not bad for a rookie 2TE.  That is more production than Shockey gave us in the spot

I still say the problem with this team isn't offense, it's defense.  If our defense performed like it did last year we'd have at most 1 or maybe 2 losses.

yes the defense has been a bigger issues overall on the season and yes the defense has much better talent than the O....but excuses are accepted in this area.   In fact, at this point, it has almost been completely put on the back page thag the D is technically  the biggest reason for our record.

stop stop stop!!! That is so delusional . No way Shula is getting fired after last seasom

Ron will be forced to explain downfall if we don't win out and save this season

He has 3 options if we don't.  Tell his boss that he sucked this offseason and made us worse not better, that most of our issues were glaring before week 1, fall on the sword himself, or start sacrificing coaches.   All coaches take option C.
